Washington Township had six different players score as they defeated Cherokee 7-4 in the JVA Championship game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Doug Sanders led Township with two goals; Jake Toran led Cherokee with two goals. After a scoreless first period Chris Moore gave Cherokee a 1-0 early in the second period. That lead held up for two minutes, when Kevin Mello tied the score for Township at 1-1. Less than a minute later Pat Curiale gave Township the lead for good scoring an unassisted goal for a 2-1 advantage.

Frank Hughes made it 3-1 as he made a good play at the point on a clearing pass and walked in and blasted a shot from the top of the circle and Township led 3-1.Thirty seconds later Toran broke in and after the initial save, Casey Forte put home the rebound and the lead was cut to 3-2. Right after the face-off Mateo Jordan broke in for Township and restored the two goal lead at 4-2. Toran scored on his second breakaway of the period and we headed into the third with Township up 4-3. Sanders gave Township some breathing room midway through the period, but Toran scored a power play goal to cut the lead to one at 5-4. Sanders scored the clincher with three minutes left and Mike Lorence iced the game scoring short-handed with thirty six seconds left. Congratulations to Coach Mello, his staff and the team on their title.
