As they have the last few years Washington Township opened the season with a cross over game against a Pennsylvania team, Council Rock South and behind a hat trick from Doug Sanders and the strong goaltending of Ryan McCusker won 5-3 as McCusker stopped 36 of 39 shots. The teams traded goals in the first period with Garrett Quinn giving Township a 1-0 lead midway through the period and Council Rock getting the tying goal late in the period. Sanders gave Township a 2-1 advantage in the opening seconds of the second period getting his first of three.

With Council Rock carrying much of the play in the second period, they out –shot Township 12-5, Mattao Jordan on a nice feed from Pat Curiale gave the home team some breathing room scoring at the nine minute mark and Township led 3-1. Council Rock capitalized on the power play at the five minute mark and drew to within 3-2. Early in the third Council Rock was buzzing and got the equalizer to tie the game at 3-3. Moments later Sanders put Township ahead to stay as Quinn got the assist.

McCusker had his best period as he faced 17 shots, but allowed just the one goal. Sanders completed his hat trick in the final moments and Township held on for the 5-3 victory.
