Steve O’Brien stopped all 21 shots as the Virtua Wings of Steel continued their winning ways with a 3-0 victory over the Vineland Sled Stars. Michael Wilson led the Wings with two goals; Isaiah Beck scored the other goal.
The Wings scored all the goals in the first period with Wilson scoring just 30 seconds into the contest, on a breakaway. Wilson got his second of the game later in the period and Beck made it 3-0 just minutes later. That was all the Wings needed as O’Brien had his strongest game of the season, making several big saves to keep Vineland off the board.
With a three goal lead Coach Valentine, as usual, pulled the offense back, which gave Vineland more opportunities, but O’Brien and his defense, led by Wilson, Beck and Nicolai Jewell shut down the Sled Stars. Everyone was rooting for the “G’ man, Garrett Goebel, as he had a breakaway late in the third period to try and score his first goal, but he was stopped by the goalie. The Wings will enjoy a week off and next travel to Woodbridge to play the Rangers.
