Dan Flaherty stopped 38 shots and Clearview survived a penalty filled third period to defeat Moorestown 5-2 on Monday night at the Igloo. Mike Vulpio led the offensive attack with two goals. Clearview took control in the first period scoring three times; twice on the power play to build a 3-1 lead. Kyle Montgomery opened the scoring at the eight minute mark scoring a power play goal to make it 1-0 Clearview. Vulpio would score the next two goals about three minutes apart, one on the power play to give Clearview a 3-0 advantage.
Bill Sulpizio would score a goal for Moorestown late in the first to cut the lead to 3-1 after one. Clearview stretched the lead to 5-1 on goals by John Garbarino and Eric Mitchell in the second period and Flaherty stopped all 13 shots to keep Moorestown off the board. The third period Clearview spent more than half the period killing penalties and Flaherty continued his strong performance as he stopped 16 shots and only surrendered a power play goal to Mike Katz as Moorestown capitalized on a two man advantage.
With the 5-2 victory Clearview bounced back from a loss to Black Horse with a strong performance against Moorestown, however they need to be more disciplined and consistent; taking 17 penalties is not a good thing, now Coach Walters will have to sit out the next game.
