Vinny Misiewicz scored his tenth goal of the season in the third period, to snap a 2-2 game and give Shawnee a 3-2 win over Black Horse in SJHSIHL action played at Hollydell. Black Horse fell to 10-3 on the season. Shawnee improved to 7-4-1. Clearly Black Horse, a Tier II team has the talent to compete at the Tier I level, especially with Kevin Magin and Tyler Graham.

Shawnee jumped out to a 2-0 lead scoring twice in the opening six minutes of the game. Lawrence Walker scored on a rebound of a shot by Peter Kaz to make it 1-0. Then Timmy Latimer scored his first career goal as his blast from the point found the short side and the lead was 2-0. Late in the period Black Horse would score a short-handed goal as Matt Bishop’s blast from the point found the net and after one it was 2-1.

After a scoreless second period Black Horse tied the game at 2-2 on a nice pass from Magin down low to Dan Wallace, they broke in 2-on-1 and Magin drew the defense over and slid the puck to Wallace who had a wide open net and he buried it to tie the score. Misiewicz gave Shawnee the lead for good as he put home a rebound of a shot by Mike Peccini with just under ten minutes left. Black Horse had an abbreviated power play in the final four minutes but could not capitalize and Shawnee escaped with the win.

Notes: It doesn’t get easier for Black Horse as they face Cherokee on Monday night at Voorhees. Graham and Magin create a lot of opportunities when they are on the ice and look pass first, which is unusual to see at this level.
