Kelly Farinella stopped 27 shots and Cole Zucker and Dave Mazzilli scored two goals each as Cherokee defeated Shawnee 5-2 at the Igloo in Mt. Laurel on Monday night. Lawrence Walker scored both Shawnee goals. With the win the Chiefs clinched the number one seed for the playoffs. Walker gave Shawnee a 1-0 lead scoring a power play goal just four minutes into the game. Zucker would tie the score at 1-1 at the nine minute mark and that’s how the period would end.

The second period was all Chiefs as they scored three goals, two thirty seconds apart to take a 4-1 lead. Dylan Bradley connected on the power play midway through the period and seconds later Mazzilli made it 3-1 with Casey Forte getting the assist. Zucker added his second in the final minute with Bradley and Forte getting the helpers.

Walker scored a short-handed goal in the final two minutes of the game to cut the lead to 4-2, but Mazzilli iced the game scoring in the final minute. Next up for the Chiefs is a game with Moorestown on Friday.
