Jonny Ruiz scored four goals and Jake DiStasio added two as Williamstown opened the playoffs with a 7-3 win over Clearview. The two teams had just played on Friday night with Clearview rallying from four down to win 7-6. But tonight there was no comeback as the Braves played better defense and when there was a lapse; Troy Altbaum was there to shut the door. The Braves jumped out early as Kyle Parks, who had another strong game with a goal and two assists, scored just three minutes into the game.
Ruiz notched his first of the night scoring on a short-handed breakaway and the Braves led 2-0. In the final minute Clearview got on the board as Eric Mitchell scored on the power play to cut the score to 2-1 heading into the second period. Once again the Braves struck early as Ruiz put home a rebound of a shot by Vince Salvadori. Later in the period DiStasio got his first of the night going top shelf and the lead was 4-1. Ruiz would add a power play goal late in the period to make it 5-1, after Clearview wasted a golden opportunity having a 2 man advantage for eighty seconds and failed to capitalize.
For the third straight period Williamstown scored early as Parks set-up Ruiz for his fourth of the night just thirteen seconds into the third. Joe Paul cut the lead to 6-2 at the nine minute mark as Clearview converted this time with the 2 man advantage. Paul would get his second of the night in the final two minutes but DiStasio ended any hopes of another comeback as he iced the game in the final minute. Next up for Williamstown is a Friday night date with Cherokee at the Skate Zone in Voorhees.
