Eastern Vikings began a tradition a few years ago where the Wednesday before Thanksgiving they invite former players to unite and play a scrimmage game against each other. Organized by former head coach Mike Pontonio and team manager Bill Flower the game has been well attended and this year was no different than in the past with close to 40 former Vikings coming from all over the state put that Viking jersey on, one more time. Some of the players have lost a step or two, although a few of the old timers looked like they could suit up today and play, like Anthony Orner.

Kyle McGovern scored with just thirty five seconds left in the game as Clearview defeated Moorestown 5-4 in Tier 1 action in Voorhees on Monday night. James Summers led the View scoring three goals. Both teams took turns leading in this see-saw affair and it appeared we might end in a tie until McGovern scored. Clearview took a 1-0 lead scoring short-handed as Nick Ramos notched his fourth of the year. Moorestown responded with a short-handed goal of their own at the ten minute mark and we were knotted at 1-1. Brandon Eberly put Moorestown up 2-1 in the opening minute of the second period, but Summers would tie the score at 2-2 getting his first of the night.

Shaun Savvas stopped 24 shots and Sam Belanger scored twice as HLV defeated Williamstown 4-2 in National division action played at the Skate Zone. The teams traded goals in the opening period with Colin Reiera giving HLV a 1-0 lead at the nine minute mark, but Williamstown would tie the game less than one minute later as Drew Murtha would get his fifth of the season. Belanger, who leads his team in scoring, would give HLV the lead for good as he scored early in the second period for a 2-1 advantage.

Dylan Richardson had a hat trick and Mike O’Brien, Dan Grace and Andrew Kostic each scored twice as Cinnaminson had little trouble with Egg Harbor Township winning 11-2. Cinnaminson would score their goals in bunches, to open the scoring Richardson and Andrew Fehr scored goals thirty four seconds apart midway through the first for a 2-0 lead. And forty seconds later O’Brien made it 3-0 scoring an unassisted goal. EHT got a goal from DJ Haney, his second of the season to make it 3-1, but James Lowry scored in the final minutes to give Cinnaminson a 4-1 lead.

Tim Papagno stopped eighteen shots and kept Washington Township off the scoreboard until the final thirty seconds as Cherokee defeated Township 4-1 in Tier 1 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Kyle Horner led the Chiefs offense scoring two goals. Horner scored in the first minute of the game as Cherokee got out quickly, that would turn out to be the only goal of the period. Township would have two power play opportunities but Papagno made several big saves to keep them off the board.

Sam Amon had four goals to lead EEW over Shawnee 7-3 in a match-up of National division teams. EEW scored six of their goals in the first period and never looked back. Alex Deitch opened the scoring just two minutes into the game connecting for his fourth goal of the year. EEW would break open the game scoring four goals in less than three minutes. Amon would get his first of the night with just under seven minutes left in the period.

Anthony Albans scored two goals as Middle Township defeated Lower Cape May 6-2 in Olympic action played in Atlantic City. With the win Middle Township improved to 5-0-1. Albano got things going early as he scored in the first thirty seconds of the game and added another goal four minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Joey Catanoso would score his first goal of the year at the nine minute mark and the lead grew to 3-0.

Matt Smith had three goals and Kingsway snapped a 5-5 game early in the third period on their way to a 7-5 win over EHT. Smith opened the scoring just fourteen seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. EHT would tie the score at 1-1 as Phil Kovalesky scored his second of the season. Smith gave Kingsway a 2-1 lead late in the period and that lead grew to 4-1 on goals by Donovan Shannon and Anthony Alestra midway through the second period. And when Hunter Kramer scored at the eleven minute mark for a 5-1 lead, Kingsway seemed to be in control.

Paul Petrongolo had two goals and two assists to lead St Joe’s to a 7-2 win over Riverfront in a battle of the top two teams in the Olympic division. The loss snapped a six game winning streak for Riverfront and St Joe’s improved to 8-1 on the season. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period with Isaac Viereck giving Riverfront the lead at 1-0 only to have Nick Corwonski tie the game on the power play. Petrongolo and Tristen Ridarelli scored goals sixteen seconds apart to give St Joe’s the lead for good at 3-1 with five minutes left in the second period.

Joe Celia scored a hat trick and Drew Murtha added two goals as Williamstown defeated Shawnee 7-4 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. With the win Williamstown evened its record at 4-4. Murtha opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the game but Shawnee tied the game at the eleven minute mark with getting his first varsity goal of the season. Murtha gave Williamstown a 2-1 lead scoring an unassisted goal with just under two minutes remaining. Shawnee had a chance to tie the game with a man advantage midway through the second period, but Celia scored short-handed to make it 3-1.
