Luke Steel had a hat trick and Tommy Papa added two goals as Cherry Hill East defeated Cherokee 7-2 for the JVA Championship last night in Voorhees. East led from the start and despite being out-shot 48-27, took control of the game with four goals in the first period. Papa and Steele would score thirty five seconds apart in the game’s first six minutes to lead 2-0. Steel would convert on the power play midway through the period and East led 3-0. Cherokee would have some power play opportunities, with consecutive penalties called against East at the nine and ten minute mark but failed to capitalize.

On the second penalty Papa would score a short-handed goal and a 4-0 lead after one. Josh Aubrey would put the Chiefs on the board in the opening minute of the second period to cut the deficit to 4-1. Ethan Chase would get that one back for East at the eight minute mark, but just over one minute later Cherokee had a golden opportunity once again on the power play, this time with a two-man advantage for a full two minutes and a chance to get back in the game. Jordan Hauler was in nets for East and he kept Cherokee off the board and East took a 5-1 lead into the third period. Steele scored in the first minute to make it 6-1, Jake Kelley would get the final goal for the Chiefs at the six minute mark and Sean McKenna would close out the scoring for East with less than four minutes left in the game. Congratulations to Coach Tracy and the Cherry Hill organization on winning the title.
