This past Thursday night the SJHSHL held its Junior/Senior Showcase draft with Team Giroux selected by Coach Popiolek from Black Horse and Coach Busler from Cherry Hill East and making the selections for Team Simmonds were Coach McKay from Cherokee and Coach Vulpio from Clearview. We tossed a coin to see who would get first pick and Team Simmonds won the toss and selected Nick Ramos, Team Giroux would select Zachary Faust with their first pick. The forwards were chosen first, total of 12, followed by 6 defenseman each team, then 3 alternates each team and finally the goalies. Here are the rosters:

The list of nominees from each SJHSHL team has been announced for the Junior/Senior Showcase game to be played on January 31st at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Each team will have 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In addition, 3 alternates will be chosen in the event a player selected cannot make the game. The league will conduct a live draft streamed on SJIceHockey.com at a date to be announced. Here are the nominees:

Colin Rogers stopped 30 shots band Kevin Troy scored four goals as St Joe’s defeated Black Horse 6-2 last night at Hollydell. The loss was the first of the season for Black Horse after winning their first eleven games. Zack Faust gave Black Horse their only lead of the night scoring his league leading 25th goal of the season at the seven minute mark of the opening period. Troy would put home a rebound of a shot by Seth Zolda with two minutes left in the period to tie the game at 1-1. Four minutes into the second period, Troy would intercept a clearing pass and score unassisted to give St Joe’s the lead for good at 2-1.

Trailing 4-3 to Cinnaminson heading into the final period, St Joe’s rallied for three goals to defeat the Pirates 6-4 at the Skate Zone in Pennsauken. Seth Zolda paced the offense with a hat trick, Dawson Nehring scored twice for Cinnaminson and Geno Sambucci assisted on all four goals. Mike Szabo scored the only goal of the opening period as Cinnaminson led 1-0. Nehring scored a power play goal in the first minute of the second period and Cinnaminson led 2-0.Zolda cut the lead to 2-1 just over one minute later, but the Pirates Mark Kordes scored on the power play to make it 3-1.

Steve Poulin broke a 2-2 game scoring his fourth goal of the season and Dennis Campbell added an empty net goal as the Braves defeated St Joe’s 4-2 in Friday night action at Hollydell. The win moved the Braves to 4-3 on the season, the first time they have been over 500 since October 17, 2014. Enrique Espinosa scored the lone goal of the first period to give Williamstown a 1-0 lead. Kevin Troy would tie the game at 1-1 for St Joe’s connecting on his fifth of the season.

Zachary Faust and Christian Corsaro each scored two goals as Black Horse defeated St Joe’s 6-1 and remain undefeated at 6-0-0. Zach Kelly opened the scoring for Black Horse with just over six minutes remaining in the first period. Faust would score his two goals thirty-nine seconds apart late in the period to give Black Horse a 3-0 lead after one period. Corsaro would get both his goals in the second period as the lead grew to 5-0 after two periods. Jeff Leap scored his first goal of the season early in the third period to give Black Horse a 6-0 lead.

Kevin Glass scored two goals, his sixth and seventh on the season as St Joe’s defeated Egg Harbor Township 3-1 Friday night at Hollydell. Colin Rodgers stopped 27 shots as St Joe’s improved to 4-1 on the season, EHT dropped to 0-4. Glass picked up a loose puck and blasted a shot from the slot that found the net and a 1-0 lead. Then with a two-man advantage, Glass scored his second of the night on the power play late in the opening period.

Kevin Glass scored three goals and Seth Zolda added two and St Joe’s would use a four goal third period to defeat Riverfront 7-4 at the Voorhees Skate Zone on Monday night. Tyler Anderson gave Riverfront a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game. Midway through the period St Joe’s would tie the score at 1-1 as Collin Oncay would get his first varsity goal of the season. Early in the second period Zolda would give St Joe’s a 2-1 lead with Matt Asher getting the assist.

Seth Zolda scored a natural hat trick as St Joe’s had little trouble in defeating Lower Cape May 6-0 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Zolda would score all of his goals in the first period, getting his first with just over five minutes left in the period with Anthony Carite and Dylan Gattone getting the assists. Just over two minutes later the lead was 2-0 and Zolda converted a feed from Robert Diehm. Then on the power play in the final two minutes Zolda completed his natural hat trick scoring an unassisted goal and the lead was 3-0 after one.

Cinnaminson received goals from four different player and built a 3-0 lead, but had to hang on from a hard charging St Joe’s squad in a 4-3 win at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with Mike Szabo scoring on the power play at the six minute mark with Alex Richardson and Liam McGurrin assisting. Then McGurrin would get his first goal of the season about five minutes later and the Pirates led 2-0.
