Anthony Santa Maria scored his second goal of the game two minutes into the second overtime as Mainland defeated Riverfront 5-4 in an opening round playoff game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Gavin Dierkhising scored all four Riverfront goals. Gage Grist added a hat trick for Mainland. Santa Maria opened the scoring in the first period just over one minute into the game. Just about one minute later Dierkhising would tie the game at 1-1, getting his first of four. Grist would give Mainland a 2-1 lead at the eleven minute mark and would add a short-handed breakaway with one second left in the period and Mainland took a 3-1 lead into the second period.

Dierkhising would get one back at the seven minute mark but Riverfront could get no closer than 3-2 after two. Dierkhising would then score two goals in a four minute span to give Riverfront a 4-3 lead with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. Grist would be the regulation hero as he scored with just over two minutes left in the third. After a scoreless first overtime of 5-on-5, we played 4-on-4 and with more room to operate both teams had scoring opportunities, but it was Santa Maria getting the game winner.
