Jeremy Ambrose scored three goals and Sam Libetti added a goal and four assists as Cherokee defeated Delaware Military Academy 11-4 in the first round of the NJ/DE Flyers Cup played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Alex Maglio led DMA with a hat trick. Forward Patrick Dugan chipped in two goals for Cherokee his first at the varsity level with Coach McKay giving him a chance after a strong JV Season. The teams traded goals in the first six minutes with Mike Deford opening the scoring for the Chiefs just two minutes into the game. Maglio tied the game at 1-1 just over one minute later.

Dugan gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead deflecting a point shot by Mike Andes at the five minute mark. Moments later Maglio would get his second of the night to tie the game at 2-2. The Chiefs would take control scoring three times over the next five minutes, with Ambrose feeding Libetti for a 3-2 lead. The Hunter Ray would see his ling shot go in and the Chiefs took control at 4-2. Ambrose was sent in on a break by Michael Iannotta with under three minutes left in the period and Cherokee took a 5-2 lead into the second period.

Maglio got DMA to within 5-3 early in the second period, but goals by Jake Bianchi and Max Zeligson two minutes apart had the Chiefs up 7-3. Braedon Dougherty would score on the power play for DMA with six minutes left in the period, but two goals by Ambrose and one by Dustin Patterson over the next three minutes put the game out of reach at 10-4. Dugan would get his second of the night to close out the scoring and end the season for DMA.
