Connor Ryan scored twice as the Cherokee Chiefs defeated the Kingsway Dragons 5-2 in the season opener for the Chiefs at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Corey Owens scored both Kingsway goals. Kingsway jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just over one minute into the game as Owens scored with Kyle Bomenblit getting the assist. Ryan would tie the score at one just about five minutes later with Darren Ambrose and Colin Devine getting the assists. Ryan gave the Chiefs the lead for good midway through the second period as he converted a pass from Liam Alexander and the Chiefs led 2-1.

Then late in the period Kingsway would go on the power play with a chance to tie the game but Justin Sroczyk would score a short-handed goal to give Cherokee a 3-1 lead. Owens would get one back in the final thirty seconds to cut the lead to 3-2 heading into the third period. Goals by Ambrose and Brendan Forest two minutes apart at the eight minute mark would close out the scoring and give the Chiefs the victory.
