Mario Leone scored five goals and Thomas Rockey added three as Clearview defeated PPACS 12-3 in the season opener for both teams at Hollydell on Friday night. Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School or PPACS, applied to join the league over the summer and after much discussion was accepted and at the last minute ended up in Tier 2. The first period was a rough welcome as the View fired 19 shots...and eight found the net. Goalie Erika Nolfi seemed nervous at the start but settled down over the next two periods and played solid. Leone and Rockey scored goals in the first forty seconds as the View led 2-0.

William Hershman would get the first of his two goals on the night for PPACS just about one minute later and it was 2-1. The View would then score six goals in a nine minute span to break the game open. Three by Leone and one each by Rockey, Cooper Yeager and a power play goal by Vincent Marco accounted for the six and an 8-1 lead after one. The second period PPACS seemed to play better defense and the teams traded goals with Rockey and Robert Gehringer scoring for the View and Hershman and Nick Fiore getting the PPACS goals and a 10-3 game after two periods. With a seven goal lead and the clock running, Clearview would get two late goals from Christos Jovanovic and Leone would get his fifth. Earlier in the period Nolfi stoned Leone on a breakaway.

Notes: Tough to make a determination after just one game, but take away the first period, it was a 4-2 game after that, I heard that PPACS was missing a few players as well, but my early feeling is that they will be competitive in Tier 2.
