Mike Lieze stopped all twenty-nine shots and Brian Barnett scored twice as Kingsway spoiled the season opener for Washington Township with a 4-0 win at Hollydell. James Messina would get his first of the season at the six minute mark of the opening period to give Kingsway as it would turn out, the only goal they needed, Messina put home a rebound of a shot by Nick Bellapigna. It stood that way until late in the second period when Barnett would get his first of two power play goals with just over five minutes remaining and two minutes later Barnett was down low once again and the lead was 3-0.

Lieze had his best period as Township had three power play opportunities and fifteen shots but could not solve Lieze With the period winding down Robert Johnson would connect for Kingsway for his first varsity goal and a 4-0 lead after two. Lieze continued to look strong in nets as Township had an early power play opportunity early in the period but despite good pressure could not put one in the net. Kingsway finished the game one man short but Lieze kept his shutout and the Township fans, who have waited for the season to start as most teams have played at least three games, left early and disappointed.
