Timber Creek rallied from a 6-2 deficit but could not come up with the tying goal in falling to Kennett 6-5 in Flyers Cup action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Brett Liszewski and Andrew Dougherty led Timber Creek with two goals each; Ryan Dougherty had a hat trick for the winners. Making their first appearance in the Flyers Cup, in their brief history, Timber Creek was a bit in awe and tentative in the first period of play and were caught out of position and that lapse led to a 3-0 advantage for Kennett. Andrew Dougherty got Timber Creek on the board in the final minute as his blast from the point found the net and the lead was cut to 3-1.

Early in the second period Ryan Dougherty scored on a breakaway for Kennett and the lead was back to three at 4-1. Liszewski got that one right back twenty seconds later as he deposited a nice pass from Mike Schwer into the net and Timber Creek was to within 4-2. Goals by Matt Sinton and Dougherty built the lead to 6-2 with four minutes left in the second period. Liszewski scored his second goal late in the period to make it 6-3 heading into the third period. Tom Szabo scored in the first two minutes to cut the lead to 6-4. Timber Creek started to believe they not only belonged here, but could win. They continued to apply pressure, and with the game winding down had a power play in the last two minutes and in a gutsy move Coach Glick pulled the goalie and that move paid off. Andrew Dougherty scored his second goal of the game with just over ninety seconds left. Despite constant pressure in the final seconds, Timber Creek could not get the equalizer.

Notes: With half of their roster graduating, it’s a long shot that Timber Creek has a team next season. Hopefully they get an influx of some players and are able to continue to play. Worse case the remaining players could join Black Horse in Tier 3. Just a thought.
