The Eastern Vikings built a 4-1 lead midway through the final period and held off a late charging Seneca team to hold on for the 4-3 win in action played at Voorhees on Monday night. Neither team generated much offense through the first two periods as Justin Sperling scored the only goal of the first period for Eastern. John Forsythe of Seneca got the first of his two goals in the second period and through two periods we were deadlocked at 1-1.Eastern took control in the third period as they scored three goals in a span of five minutes to lead 4-1. Billy Bascou set-up Sam Seigeldorf for a 2-1 lead then Bascou broke in with Vice Clementi and after drawing over the defenseman slid the puck to Clementi who had most of an empty net to shoot at.
Marc Duyan put home a rebound of a point shot by Sean Keegan and the lead was at 4-1 just past the midway point of the final period. Seneca scored their second goal with less than two minutes left as Ryan Dietrich converted a nice feed from Chris Cocozza along the side of the net and it was 4-2. Then with time winding down, Forsythe got his second goal with thirty seven seconds left to close the gap to 4-3, but Seneca ran out of time.
Notes: Although still looking for their first win, I still see a lot of hustle and determination from Seneca and on average are only giving up just over 5 goals and with a young squad, should only improve.
