Cherokee played an almost perfect game defensively in skating to a 1-1 draw with Washington Township on Monday night at Voorhees. Coming into the game Township was averaging eight goals a game and their first line had combined for 196 points. It was obvious that Cherokee was determined to not let that line get going, and there scheme worked. Township had the best opportunity of the period to score as they had a two man advantage for a full two minutes late in the period that carried over into the second, but they failed to capitalize.

Eddie Sarin missed the second period with what appeared to be a shoulder injury, did return for the third period, but seemed to be favoring it. Township finally broke through as Justin Cogbill scored on the power play three minutes into the second period. The game stayed that way until Josh Westrom tied the score for Cherokee as his shot from a tough angle just crossed the goal line with eleven minutes left to play. Although neither team would score, both teams had an opportunity on the power play.

After Township failed on its’ chance, Cherokee had the man advantage in the final three minutes, but failed to capitalize. With the clock winding down however, Cherokee just failed to score at the end as Jason Spieker hit the crossbar at the buzzer.

Notes: The penalty called on Cherokee for an equipment infraction, in a tie game late in the game, was ludicrous. Usually the games are about the players.
