Alec Nicolai scored twice as Moorestown defeated Holy Cross 5-3 in the Title game last night at the Igloo. In front of a standing room only crowd Holy Cross broke through first scoring short-handed as Ryan Badger scored a wrap around goal against Craig Rushmore. Nicolai tied the game about four minutes later as he banged home his shot just under the crossbar. Twenty-two seconds later Tyler Woyshner gave Moorestown the lead for good scoring from in close. Late in the period Rushmore stopped a breakaway to keep Moorestown ahead at 2-1 heading into the second period.

Nicolai made it 3-1 as he scored a power play goal just two minutes into the period. Matt Olbrich made it 4-1 at the five minute mark, but thirty seconds later Steve Petitte cut the lead to 4-2. Holy Cross kept the pressure on, but Rushmore did not allow another goal in the period and Moorestown was 15 minutes away from a repeat. Jus playing solid defense Moorestown was content tot sit on the lead. Holy Cross got a break at the four minute mark as the shot from the point went off a Moorestown defender and into the net and suddenly it was 4-3.

Moorestown got some breathing room as Alex Hashmi scored the clincher with just over one minute remaining and Moorestown had clinched its second straight championship. Coach Griffis said after the game that is was tough to repeat, gave credit to Holy Cross for playing tough, and that last year they got the monkey off there backs and how gratifying it is especially with the seniors he has coached from middle school to now.
