With the season about a month away I give my preseason top 5. There is no longer a north-south breakdown so each of the 13 teams will play each other twice.

I see Moorestown, Cinnaminson, Cherokee, Washington Township, and Clearview as the top 5.

Moorestown lost 7 seniors from last year, but return Craig Rushmore (1.71 GAA), Michael Eni 22pts, Tyler Woyshner 28pts, Alex Hashmi 40pts, and Alex Nicoli 29pts.

Cinnaminson lost 1 senior from last year. They return 269 penalty minutes to a 14-8 team from last year. Eric McDowell 37pts and Justin Nugent 27 point should lead the team again.

Cherokee last years runner up, lost 11 seniors, but return Pat Mohnacs 32 pts, jason Speiker 21 pts, and Anthony Santisi 22 pts.

Township lost 6 seniors who accounted for 92 of the teams 172 regular season goals to a team that went 19-2-1 and gave up just 46 goals last season. They return Mike Stover in goal 2.17GAA, and Eddie Sarin 25 g, 25 A. 50 pts, and Louie DeAngelo 24 goals, 21 a, 45 pts.

Clearview lost 7 seniors, including Hoffman in goal. They return Eddie Moore 14 g, 19pts, and Eric Heritage 20g-15a 25 pts but 67 penalty minutes. Clearview could make some noise on the scoreboard if they aren't making it in the penalty box.

What is your top 5 picks for the upcoming season?

I'm actually in the middle of writing about the upcoming season. I don't like the 13 teams in one division. Moorestown is the defending champ, and right now I like them to repeat. But its a long season and I haven't seen any teams yet. Township looks to be strong and Cinnaminson if they can stay away from the penalties, should be a foce. Losing the Crespo brothers along with McDpnald and Kopervas will hurt Shawnee.

moorestown, cinnaminson, cherokee, washington township are the only contenders....all the other teams are in a league among their own

moorestown is going to be very tough again as 4 accomplished varsity players (eni, woyshner, hasmi, nicoli) all return as well as solid goal tending, and have a good young core move up from the championship jv team, but will struggle on defense

cinnaminson was a solid team last year as they are deep in solid well rounded players, mcdowell and nugent have to step it up , and team pim go down

cherokee will also be a solid team they have a good first couple lines and great goaltending but slump off at the end, look for mohnacs to lead them in points

washington township is not very deep but have the best goalie, forward, and defenseman in the league, and are always contenders

After the first two weeks of the season, I'm going back to my preseason favorites and changing it to my early season favorites. The early season favorites don't mean much besides to see who is doing well early in the season. Clearview drops out. Cherokees loss to Holy Cross moves Holy Cross up and Cherokee down. Holy Cross has wins over Williamstown 3-2, RV 9-2, and Cherokee. Cinnaminson is scoring. They are an early season favorite. They have a week off after their Shawnee game before the Oct 12 game against Township. That should be a good indicator of who takes the favorite spot. Washington Township has wins over Shawnee and Moorestown, and has games coming up against Cherokee on Monday, Moorestown again on Friday, and then Cinnaminson. The Holy Croos Cinnaminson game on the 19th will be another early indicator. If Cinnaminson winns over both Township and Holy Cross, the are the early team to beat, if not, then the team(s) that beat Cinnaminson take the spot. Sorry Moorestown, Cherokee, Shawnee, but the season is early and the only thing that counts is whos left standing at the end of the year.

My early season favorites are now: 1- Cinnaminson, 2- Washington Township & 3 Holy Cross (contenter or pretender???) 4 Moorestown

On another note, how come the other site doesn't have all the scores up yet?

Bart, while I agree that Cinnaminson and Township appear to be 2 of the top teams, I would not count Moorestown out just yet, I haven't seen Holy Cross just yet, I know they have 8 seniors, it does appear to be a rebuilding year for some teams as graduation has definitely hurt Shawnee and Cherokee, normally top teams. I think Cherokee will be there at the end along with Moorestown and the other top two teams. On the other hand I think we are in for a lot of one-sided games as the decision to lump all the teams in one division will prove to be a wrong one. Hopefully that's not the case.

I would just like to add on Easterns behalf as a former varsity player ending hs hockey in the 2007-2008 season and now assistant coach of the varsity team. The team looks good were rolling 6 offense and 5 defense and 1 goalie and shes a very talented one at that and these kids got it all. Ive honestly never seen such a short manned team be able to perform and have 1st period energy through out an entire game like these kids. There very well disciplined we enforce on them that we do not want anymore than 4 penalties in a game and so far we havent had more than 4. There a tough determined team this year and if they can all keep their heads straight and play together as a unit a lot of other teams shouldnt under estimate what eastern has this year. i dont mean to make our team look all invincible but with what we have compared to what we used to have our team could have a happy ending this seaon with the future obstacles we must face.
