Well the obvious 2 choices to be in the finals are Moorestown and Township, but many times the obvious doesn't happen. As you know in the playoffs anything can happen, a goalie gets hot and can carry you a long way. You need strong defensive play and back-checking forwards. If I were to pick one team to watch it would be Cherokee. They play good defense have 2 strong net-minders and are well-coached, the problem is they can't score, so in a low scoring game, they are a favorite, but they can't win many 7-5 games. Eastern can score a lot of goals, but they struggle defensively, same with RV they can score but also give up a lot as well. Who knows, that's why they play the games, like the saying says, on any given night...

This weeks top 5;

1- Washington Twp & Moorestown 3- Cherokee, 4- Holy Cross 5- Cinnaminson

Cherokee was quite impressive in its win over RV. Some good games Monday night, with Moorestown/Cherokee, and Township/Holy Cross. Look for Cherokee to knock off Moorestown and Holy Cross to upset Township.

My year end picks as the top 5, and a season review

1- Moorestown 2- Holy Cross 3- Cherokee 4- Washington Township 5- Shawnee

Moorestown showed the determination and depth to repeat as champions. Holy Cross came together but just didn't have enough to get by Moorestown. The return of some of their injured players and their AAA kids making the games helped the club get to the championship game. Look for them to return next year and be strong. Cherokee had some ups and downs, but as usual when its playoff time, they put together a respectable run. Township for the second year in a row finished as the top seed, but again come playoff time didn't have the abililty to come through for whatever the reason. Shawnee was able to trn their season around with the coaching of the only guy in South Jersey to be able to claim a state championship. The kids were able to progress and develop under his coaching and be respectable.

What will next year bring? Will there be an OT shootout? How many divisions will there be? And for that matter, how many teams will there be?

There is stilll Flyers Cup, but I'm not expecting much out of it. Cinnaminson faltered late. Eastern did the same, Can Bascou have some of his magic left for them to get a second game. Cherokee and Township face off against each other. Cherokee hasn't taken the Flyers Cup seriously but look for them to show their win over Township in the playoffs was no lucky puck bounce. Township will be short handed again and be done after the first round. Then Cherokee will have to play Pennsbury at Grundy, and it will be over for them. Can any of the clubs represent South Jersey or will their play justify the opinion of the league among the PA clubs and fan base?

Bart, I have to agree with your final top five of the season. Moorestown proved once again its all about team and not indivduals. Cherokke just could not score any goals, they had the best goalie and defenseman, but without that sniper they are vulnerable. As for Flyers Cup, I disagree with your choice and think Township will bounce back against Cherokee. Not sure what next year will bring...
