My year end picks as the top 5, and a season review
1- Moorestown 2- Holy Cross 3- Cherokee 4- Washington Township 5- Shawnee
Moorestown showed the determination and depth to repeat as champions. Holy Cross came together but just didn't have enough to get by Moorestown. The return of some of their injured players and their AAA kids making the games helped the club get to the championship game. Look for them to return next year and be strong. Cherokee had some ups and downs, but as usual when its playoff time, they put together a respectable run. Township for the second year in a row finished as the top seed, but again come playoff time didn't have the abililty to come through for whatever the reason. Shawnee was able to trn their season around with the coaching of the only guy in South Jersey to be able to claim a state championship. The kids were able to progress and develop under his coaching and be respectable.
What will next year bring? Will there be an OT shootout? How many divisions will there be? And for that matter, how many teams will there be?
There is stilll Flyers Cup, but I'm not expecting much out of it. Cinnaminson faltered late. Eastern did the same, Can Bascou have some of his magic left for them to get a second game. Cherokee and Township face off against each other. Cherokee hasn't taken the Flyers Cup seriously but look for them to show their win over Township in the playoffs was no lucky puck bounce. Township will be short handed again and be done after the first round. Then Cherokee will have to play Pennsbury at Grundy, and it will be over for them. Can any of the clubs represent South Jersey or will their play justify the opinion of the league among the PA clubs and fan base?
