Who do you think will be the preseason favorite for the upcoming season?

Will it be Moorestown for a three peat? Does Holy Cross have the horses to come back from second to take the lead with a new goalie? Will Cherokee rise to the top with a new coach in Coach Monahan? Does coach Glick have the ability to bring Township to the top for the first time in four years, and is Eddie Sarin able to carry a short club under Glick?

My early picks for the top five are Moorestown, Cherokee, Shawnee, Holy Cross, and Clearview. I'll tell you why in a bit?

Bart, so nice to hear from you, hope your summer is going well...

First, as you know you are the champ until someone beats you, and as Moorestown has proven the last 2 years they are the team to beat, so until someone beats them, they are the favorites. CJ Byrd was a big reason for the succes of Holy Cross, and with goaltending always an issue for all teams, can Holy Cross have a good year? We shall see. As far as the coaching changes at two of the most successful programs in my 13 years covering the league, it bothers me that at both Township and Cherokee both coaches were forced out as a result of board members that might have there own agenda. Township had 1 loss last year in the regular season and had key injuries to their top line and dismissal of their second leading scorer. Cherokee had 3 losses and made the semifinals with a team that struggled to score goals and had 1 forward in the top 20 in scoring. To me both teams over-achieved. I think Cherokee which always seem to play defense first, will once again need someone to step up and score, Coach Monahan will succeed because he understands what it takes. Township will once again rely on Sarin, and Glick won a title with Timber Creek, but will his personality fit?? Top five? Moorestown at number one, after that its wide open.

Yes I did, other than that I was close. Maybe I hoping for a good year from Clearview. Their goalie could be a problem. They have three decent forwards in Moore, Campbell (if he plays as a team player), and Olsen coming back from the Prep. How deep will the rest of the team be, And will they be a top 5, probably not. Same as Holy Cross. They will have young goaltending, and could be this years RV, with 16-9 games. Township has Sarin and Smith back, what else??, a new coach. He did well in tier II, winning it, but some of the teams had their tier II players play at tier I. Will Cusomanto have another good year, and how will the D be in front of him. Cherokee will be back, and like Clearview-Twp, Shawnee-Cherokee is always a tough rivalry, no matter who has what for a record, you can't count out the underdog. Shawnee could be dangerous, as Coach Fingerhut has his teams ready at the end of the year. Moorestown is again the favorite, until someone koncks them off, (like Township did early last year), so my new top 5 are Moorestown, Cherokee, Shawnee, Township, and Williamstown.

Mike,

Quick note to set the record straight. Coach Monahan joined the Cherokee Coaching Staff as an Assistant Coach and did not or would ever replace my longtime friend Coach Sullivan. While I was Hockey Director at the old Medford Ice Rink , I had the opportunity to work with many of the Cherokee kids while they were in middle school and helped coach the Cherokee JV B team. The opportunity became available to join old friends in Coach Sullivan and McKay and help bring the Championship back to the program.

I am very grateful to the players, parents and board of Moorestown for the opportunity in my two years to attain the goals we hoped for. Great program, families and board. I am still involved with their Middle School kids and will continue. At that age it's not the crest on the chest but what is in the jersey and their development in our great sport. Moorestown will continue to move forward with Jim Rushmore as President. Ron did a marvelous job for ten years and winning two championships in a row was a fitting end to his leadership.

Good luck to Coach Glick. Tough shoes to fill.

Steve Monahan

Coach,

thanks for setting the record straight. Seems Bart gave us some mis-information, although he is usually accurate. Good luck this season
