scorekeepers

The scorekeepers need to do a better job, if you don't know what a shot on goal is and how to run the clock than don't do the job. It's getting ridiculous that they get paid to do this and can't pay attention to the game.

Re: scorekeepers

Agreed!  When there's a power play and the goalie is facing a lot of shots on net and the scorekeeper has their head down the entire time -- obvioulsy not paying attention to the game -- it's not fair to the goalie and his stats.  Personally I don't understand why we just don't use parent volunteers for this.

Re: scorekeepers

Having been in the scorers box for 11 years I can tell you that until recently this position was not paid and your suggestion of volunteers was not successful. Every game was a scramble to get 2 people to volunteer. With the league now having this position as paid, the scorers do the best they can do, nobody is perfect, and they are doing the job of 2 people, and at times its hectic and crazy. Don't you think the most important stat is how is my team doing? And not what is my save percentage?

Re: scorekeepers

Hectic and crazy, I agree but I also see that some scorekeepers are just not interested.  In the particular game I was talking about, the scorekeeper had his head down for the entire two minute penalty -- what was he doing?  Couldn't have taken that long to write the penalty on the score sheet and it was only one penalty -- not hectic and not crazy.  The kids are older and they do understand the stats, so not only is "how is my team doing?" important, but so are the stats when they relate to the players -- especially since they are posted on the South Jersey website.
