Shawnee wins in OT reaches Semi-Finals

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Joe Pezzato scored at the five minute mark in the first overtime as Shawnee defeated Strath Haven 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals in the Flyers Cup. Led by Freshman goalie Alex Crespo, who was outstanding in nets stopping 40 shots on net, only, surrendering one goal over fifty minutes of hockey.

After Dan Kent had given Shawnee a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, neither team would score until Strath Haven would tie the game in the third period.

Crespo in his first start in probably the biggest game in his life, kept Shawnee in the game as the offense could only generate 19 shots through three periods. Next up for Shawnee is West Chester East, fresh off an upset of the top seeded West Chester Henderson. Shawnee looks to continue the South Jersey streak started by Township last year as the second team in a row to advance to the Flyer Cup Finals after winning the Title in South Jersey.
