Just ninety seconds into the game East scored, but right after the face-off, Mat McDonald found Connor Dragone all alone along the right side and his quick shot tied the game at 1-1. Oriente got that one back a few minutes later and East led 2-1 after one period.
McDonald tied the score at 2-2 early in the second period, this time Dragone getting the helper. After East took a 3-2 lead, Joe Pezzato banged home the tying goal for Shawnee. Late in the period with East on the power play they were able to capitalize and took a 4-3 lead into the third period. Midway through the period Chris Lowney blasted a shot from the point that found the back of the net and once again we were tied at 4-4.
Both teams had good opportunities to win the game before the end of regulation, but neither could capitalize. Both teams were cautious to begin the overtime, but East prevailed as Oriente’s shot just crossed the line and Shawnee had fallen short in their quest to make the finals. Still was a great season for Shawnee and they displayed a lot of class and represented the league quite nicely in this tournament.
