Well another hockey season is coming to an end, all that’s left is the Flyers Cup, and over the last few years’ teams seemed to have lost their desire to participate in the tournament. Trailing 5-2 with six minutes left in the second period Shawnee scored the next five goals and defeated Cherokee 7-5 to win the SJHSIHL Championship. Matt McDonald, our Tier 1 player of the Year, had a goal and three assists, Chris Lowney added two goals to pace Shawnee.

Rob Willwerth had a hat trick as Shawnee JVA defeated Cinnaminson 6-4 to win the JVA championship. Coming in as the number one seed Cinnaminson suffered only one loss during the regular season, but it was Shawnee that prevailed.

Dan Mathews surrendered only one goal and Jonathan Ruiz had a goal and an assist as Williamstown defeated Delran 3-1 to win the JVB Championship of the SJHSIHL. Ruiz capitalized on a 4-4 situation to give Williamstown a 1-0 lead after the first period. In nets Mathews continually frustrated Delran and stoned Ray Norfo twice down low, Norfo led the league with 40 goals, but could not solve Mathews.

Stephen Janssen was superb in nets for Cherokee as they defeated Shawnee in a shootout 5-3 to force a deciding game in the Tier 1 championship that will be played on Wednesday night at Voorhees. Before a standing room only crowd, Janssen faced almost 50 shots through three periods and two overtime periods and only surrendered 2 regulation goals and one in the shootout, and his performance kept Cherokee’s season alive.
