Kevin Troy scored four goals as St Joe’s defeated Riverfront 5-3 and forced a deciding game in the Tier II championship. The teams will meet this Friday at the Igloo. Troy and Sean Conard traded first period goals one minute apart as we ended at 1-1. Early in the second period Troy scored an unassisted power play goal to give St Joe’s the 2-1 lead, Riverfront would tie the score at 2-2 at the eight minute mark with Gavin Dierkhising getting the equalizer. Troy would strike again late in the period again unassisted and St Joe’s led 3-2 after two.

Cherry Hill East converted on both power play opportunities in the second period and went on to defeat HLV 3-1 and force a deciding game in the Tier II A double elimination tournament. The two teams will battle again on Friday night at the Igloo. Ethan Chase for Cherry Hill and Gavin Gray for HLV swapped unassisted goals in the first period. East would get power play goals from Kyle Hill and Luke Steele, capitalizing on a two-man advantage and led 3-1 after two periods.

Jona Carmany and Darren Hewitt each had a hat trick as Egg Harbor Township defeated Cherokee 8-3 in the JVB Championship. Cherokee led 2-0 in the first four minutes of the game on goals by Patrick Dugan and Ryan Deangelis. Jacob Feliciano got things going for EHT scoring at the eleven minute mark, less than two minutes later we were tied at 2-2 on the first of three by Carmany. Hewitt scored on the power play with one second left in the period and EHT took a 3-2 lead after one.

Luke Steel had a hat trick and Tommy Papa added two goals as Cherry Hill East defeated Cherokee 7-2 for the JVA Championship last night in Voorhees. East led from the start and despite being out-shot 48-27, took control of the game with four goals in the first period. Papa and Steele would score thirty five seconds apart in the game’s first six minutes to lead 2-0. Steel would convert on the power play midway through the period and East led 3-0. Cherokee would have some power play opportunities, with consecutive penalties called against East at the nine and ten minute mark but failed to capitalize.

The teams have been announced for the NJ/Delaware Flyers cup and soon it will begin its 4th Annual tournament the second week of March. This year there has been an increase in the number of teams participating. Here is the schedule for the Pond in Delaware with Salesianum playing Kingsway and Delaware Military Academy playing Township on Monday March 6th. Cherokee will host Moorestown and Eastern will host Appoquinmink at Voorhees also on March 6th. Semi-finals on Wednesday, March 8th with the Championship on Friday March 10th. Jeremy Ambrose had two goals and two assists and Mike Deford added two goals as Cherokee defeated Eastern 6-3 to force a deciding game on Monday night in the Tier I double elimination tournament. Maxim Kuznetsov scored all three Eastern goals. Deford scored the only goal of the first period as he deflected a point shot by Jake Frankenfield to put the Chiefs up 1-0. Ambrose made the play along the boards as he kept the puck in and feed Frankenfield with Deford crossing in front and deflecting the shot into the net. Frankenfield had a strong game on defense as he shadowed Kuznetsov on the ice all night.

Colin Rogers stopped all 25 shots and Kevin Troy scored twice as St Joe’s defeated Cinnaminson 5-0 in Tier II playoff action at Pennsauken. Troy scored the only goal of the first period with under two minutes remaining with Kevin Glass getting the assist. Glass scored an unassisted goal early in the second period to put St Joe’s up 2-0. With Cinnaminson whistled for a five minute major, St Joe’s capitalized scoring two power play goals, with Troy and Dylan Gattone getting the goals and a 4-0 lead after two periods. Rogers would be tested late in the period as Cinnaminson went on the power play but could not get one past him.

Zachary Faust had a hat trick and Matthew Meldrum added two goals as Black Horse avoided elimination with a 6-1 win over Williamstown. The loss was the first for the Braves and the two teams will meet again for the Tier I B title. Williamstown would take a 1-0 lead as Dennis Campbell scored in the opening three minutes. Goals by Faust and Jeff Leap four minutes apart gave Black Horse the lead for good at 2-1. Faust would score a power play goal midway through the second period and Meldrum would get his first of the night late in the period and the lead was 4-1 after two.

Cherry Hill East continues to ride the hot play of Jordan Hauler as he stopped 25 shots as they eliminated Shawnee 3-1 and will now play HLV in the championship round. HLV has not suffered a loss in the double elimination tournament so East will have to beat them twice. First with tonight’s win, East jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Jack Meath and Tommy Papa. Beginning the second period on the power play and a chance to go up three goals, Ryley Bergeson would score short-handed for Shawnee just ten second in to make it 2-1.

Luke Steele put home a rebound early in the first overtime as Cherry Hill East defeated Clearview 4-3 in an overtime thriller last night at Hollydell. Jordan Hauler got the start in nets for East and played outstanding as Cherry Hill built a 3-0 lead. Thurston Schon got things going early for Cherry Hill scoring in the first ninety seconds of the game. Jack Meath, who tallied two goals tonight, which doubled his season total, scored a power play goal in the final four minutes of the period and East took a 2-0 lead into the second period. Hauler was stopping everything as the View could not get one by him and with the period winding down Meath scored on a breakaway to give East a 3-0 lead.
