The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. We will conduct a live draft next week-date and time to be announced so stay tuned. Here are your 2017-2018 nominees...

David Cutler scored three goals and Nicholas Carr added two as Cherry Hill East scored four goals in the first period as they defeated Mainland 6-3 in Tier II action in Voorhees on Monday evening. Cutler scored right after the opening face-off for a 1-0 lead. Just over one minute later Carr would get his first of the night and less than two minutes in East led 2-0. Cutler would make it 3-0 at the four minute mark and three minutes later Carr had his second and East led 4-0.

After starting the season 3-3, Cherokee has now won eight in a row including Monday night’s impressive 3-0 win over Eastern at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Crisp passing and getting back on defense were the consistent factors as the Chiefs outshot Eastern 33-10. Granted the Vikings were missing leading score Max Kuznetsov, but Cherokee seems to have found their grove at the right time as we wind down the season. Jacob Bianchi gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes left as good work down low by Jeremy Ambrose created the scoring opportunity. Just over one minute later Samuel Berger put home a rebound of a shot by Mike Deford and the lead was 2-0.

Gavin Dierkhising second goal of the night on the power play with just over five minutes left in the game gave Riverfront a 3-3 tie against Clearview in Tier II action played in Voorhees. Sean Cantwell and Colin Hughes exchanged goals in the first period, for Hughes it was his team high 19th of the season and that’s where we stood after one period. Dierkhising scored the only goal of the second period this one on the power play as Riverfront took a 2-1 lead into the third period. The View would rally in the third period as they would score twice in less than two minutes to take the lead.

Robert Falese scored three goals as Shawnee had little trouble in defeating Lower Cape May 10-0 in game action played in Voorhees on Monday night. Thomas Caputo and David Hoftiezer added two goals each as Shawnee would score five goals in the second period to break the game open. After goals by Caputo and Falese gave Shawnee a 2-0 lead after one, they would double that in the first four minutes of the second period on goals by Kevin Casciato and Ryan Feast and the lead was 4-0. Midway through the period Caputo would get his second and just over three minutes later Todd Minshall would connect for his third of the season and suddenly it was 6-0.

Williamstown forward Dennis Campbell scored two third period goals to snap a 2-2 game and Williamstown survived a late goal from Township to hold on for the 4-3 upset. Township jumped out early as Joey Ricchezza found Andrew McKinley in the slot and his quick shot found the net and a 1-0 lead in the opening minute. Williamstown would tie the game at 1-1 three minutes later as Steve Poulin would get the first of two on the night. Chad Castorina gave Township a 2-1 lead with five minutes left in the period and that lead stood up until the nine minute mark of the third when Campbell scored down low to tie the game at 2-2.

Colin Hughes scored four goals as Clearview eased by Middle Township 7-2 in action played at Hollydell on Friday night. The View broke the game open scoring three goals in a two minute span. Hughes scored the only goal of the first period midway through as Clearview led just 1-0 after one. Goals by Eli Howey, Hughes and Chase Dyar in a two minute span gave the View a 4-0. Thomas Rockey would make it 5-0 scoring on a breakaway.

Anthony Poppalardo scored three goals as Shawnee defeated Williamstown 6-4 in Tier I action played in Voorhees. Shawnee jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period on goals by Aidan McGray, Poppalardo and Robert Falese. Williamstown staged a comeback early in the second period getting goals from Jesse Cave and Steve Poulin in the opening minute to cut the deficit to 3-2. Thomas Caputo would give Shawnee some breathing room midway through the period scoring his third goal of the season and a 4-2 lead.

Ten different players scored for Cherry Hill East as they had little trouble in defeating Middle Township 15-1 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Johnny Pearson had a hat trick to lead the way and Thomas Papa, Sean McKenna and Luke Steele each scored two goals to lead the East attack. The ten goal second period was a season high and club record for East. Mike Martinez, Jacob Holland, Jack Amon, Eric First, David Cutler and Nicholas Carr scored the remaining goals for East. Nicholas Guenther scored the only Middle Township goal.

Matthew Kilkenny scored with less than four minutes remaining in the game to give HLV a 1-1 tie against Clearview in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. Clearview’s lone goal came off the stick of Christopher Geary midway through the second period, his fourth of the season and Clearview goalie Matt Dalonzo made that lead stand up until late in the game. Dalonzo stopped 32 shots in a strong performance while the View was only able to launch 14 shots. HLV improved to 13-2-2 on the season and moved one point ahead of Cherry Hill East in the standings.
