Nine different players scored a goal as Black Horse launched a team high 72 shots in defeating Lower Cape May 10-1 in the opening round of the playoffs last night in Voorhees. John McLaughlin scored two goals as Black Horse used a seven goal first period to take control of the game. Charles Magil scored the lone Lower Cape May goal. Joining McLaughlin in the scoring column were Zachary Faust, Vince Melfi, Zachary Covely, Bradley Brodzik, Christian Corsaro, Matt Meldrum, Jeff Leap and Mike Barbella.

Nick Shute scored two goals as Washington Township defeated Kingsway 6-1 in the final regular season game and a rare home game for the Minutemen. The six goals is the second highest offensive output for Township and they are 3-0-1 in their last four games and peaking at the right time with playoffs starting. Shute made it 1-0 at the eight minute mark, putting home a rebound. Joe Crincoli made it 2-0 late in the period with Stefano Sferra and Andrew McGinley assisting. Kyle Rink got the start in nets for Township and stopped 12 of thirteen shots. Early in the second period Joey Ricchezza would set-up Shute for his second goal and the lead was 3-0.

Senior night at Hollydell produced a large crowd for Clearview as they rallied from a 4-2 deficit to beat Williamstown 7-5 on Friday night. Anthony Dellerose and Matt Manzo led the offense scoring two goals each, Drew Murtha and Justin Fortuna scored twice for Williamstown. Joey Freda gave the View a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Murtha would get the equalizer at the nine minute mark. Manzo would give the View a 2-1 lead with just over three minutes left as Hunter Tamburro won the draw right back to Manzo. Just over two minutes later Fortuna would get the first of his two on the night as Steve Poulin intercepted a clearing pass and found Fortuna down low for a tap-in goal and we were tied at 2-2 after one.

Mike Moss broke a 2-2 game with ten minutes left in the game as Team Simmonds edged Team Giroux 3-2 in last night’s Junior/Senior Showcase game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Having participated in the last few drafts Coach McKay has never won in this format, and while he wouldn’t admit that it bothered him, I got to believe that the success he has enjoyed over the last 8 years, not winning this game was probably bothering him to a degree. Trailing 2-0 on goals by Kevin Troy of St Joe’s and Zachary Faust of Black Horse, Team Simmonds would get a late goal in the period as Cody Charyk from Shawnee would score with Moss and Vinny Salerno getting the assists.

Cherokee trailed 2-1 entering the third period but scored four times as they rallied to defeat Clearview 5-2 in late game action at Voorhees. Jeremy Ambrose led the offense with a hat trick and Sam Libetti had three assists. The Chiefs jumped out to a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game as Andrea Katsanos scored on the power play. But right off the center ice face-off Clearview would get the tying goal from Joey Freda just six seconds later. Robert Penrod would give the View a 2-1 lead late in the period scoring his sixth of the season.

Vincenzo Salerno had a goal and three assists and Mike Moss scored twice and had two assists as Kingsway defeated Cinnaminson 5-1 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees this past Monday. Kingsway had a 2-0 lead after one period on a power play goal by Matt Kudless and a short-handed goal by Salerno. Geno Sambucci put Cinnaminson on the board five minutes into the second period getting credit for his sixth goal of the season and the lead was 2-1. Salerno would set-up Moss late in the period as Kingsway led 3-1 after two periods.

Cherry Hill East had four different players score as they defeated St Joe’s 4-1 on senior night for both clubs. Jack Amon opened the scoring late in the period scoring from down low, his seventh of the season and East led 1-0 after one period, a period they dominated but could only get one by Colin Rogers, who faced 44 shots on the night and kept his team in the game. East again worked late as they score two goals near the end of the period, one by John Pearson on the power play, his team high 16th on the season and Callum Scott would notch his second of the season and a 3-0 lead after two.

Trailing 4-2 after two periods, Black Horse scored four third period goals and hung on to defeat Williamstown 6-5 as Zachary Faust scored four goals to make sure senior night was a success for Black Horse. The four goals give Faust a league high of 43 on the season and he has surpassed 100 points for his 3 year career. Faust scored the first two goals of the game as Black Horse led 2-0 with just over five minutes left in the period. Dennis Campbell would connect on the power play in the final minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Drew Murtha would take over the second period as he would score a natural hat trick to give the Braves a 4-2 lead. First he scored on a breakaway four minutes into the period.

Adam Notaro stopped 50 shots and Egg Harbor Township rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit to tie Clearview 3-3 in early game action at Hollydell. The View started quickly as most of the first period was spent in the Egg Harbor zone with 20 of the 53 total shots launched in the opening 15 minutes. Chase Dyar opened the scoring just bovver three minutes into the game and just about one minute later Derek McKinley had the lead to 2-0 getting his second goal of the season. Leading scorer Nick Ramos would score his 23rd of the season, this one on the power play, on a nice feed from Robert Penrod in the final seconds of the period and the lead was 3-0.

Brendan Blight scored five goals and Mainland scored seven times in the third period as they handled Cinnaminson 11-3 in early game action at Pennsauken on Friday night. Blight came into the game with six goals and had a career high scoring five and had three of the seven in the third period. Mainland led just 1-0 after one period on a goal by Jonathan Wilson, his fifth of the season and the third straight game he has scored a goal. Blight would get his first on the night at the three minute mark of the second period and the lead was 2-0.
