Matt Kilkenny scored three goals and added two assists and Kyle Peters added two goals and two assists as HLV used a six goal first period and went on to defeat Riverfront 10-3 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The teams would combine for eight goals in a wild first period, with six coming in the first six minutes. Peters and Kevin Yang scored goals in the first two minutes as HLV led 2-0. Daniel Taylor would get Riverfront on the board at the four minute mark, but goals by Kilkenny and Zachary Stoor ninety seconds apart had the lead to 4-1.

Cherry Hill East scored three goals in the second period and Luke Martini stopped all 16 shots as Cherry Hill East defeated St Joe’s 3-0 in Tier II action in Voorhees. With this being senior night East wanted to jump out early but three penalties, had them short-handed and gave St Joe’s an opportunity to get an early lead but Martini was strong in nets and despite a two man advantage seventy five seconds, St Joe’s failed to capitalize and we were scoreless after one period.

After being held scoreless for six periods, Washington Township got a hat trick from Dominic Garrozzo in defeating Shawnee 5-2 in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. The Minutemen jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Garrozzo and Andrew McGinley. Anthony Poppalardo would get Shawnee on the board in the opening minute of the second period scoring his team high 14th goal of the year and suddenly it was 2-1. Garrozzo would restore the two goal lead midway through the period on a feed from Joe Ricchezza and Township took a 3-1 lead into the third period.

Washington Township failed to score for the second straight game as they lost to Moorestown 3-0 in a game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Kyle Rink stopped 32 shots and allowed just two goals both coming on the power play. After averaging over five goals per game the first 14 games the Township offense has disappeared the last two games, being shutout in both games and having just a combined 30 shots in both contests. Moorestown scored the only goal they would need at the five minute mark of the first period converting on the power play as Andrew Jordan would score his 5th of the season and a 1-0 lead. Township had a golden opportunity with a two man advantage for over one minute, but never got set-up in the zone. Early in the second period Moorestown would capitalize as they had a two man advantage and Luke Dobbs would net his seventh of the year and a 2-0 lead. Rink would stone Jordan later in the period to keep Township within striking distance.

Chase Dyar had two goals as Clearview defeated Middle Township 7-2 last night at Hollydell. Mike DeFelice opened the scoring for the View four minute into the game with Dyar and Colin Hughes getting the assists. Midway through the period Nick Pirrotta would score his 8th of the season to give the View a 2-0 lead. Mike Linhares would get Middle on the board with just under two minutes left in the period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Dyar got his first of the game scoring on a breakaway with forty six seconds left in the period to give the View a 3-1 lead after one period.

Jeremy Ambrose had three goals and two assists as Cherokee defeated Washington Township 7-0 on a rare Wednesday night game at Voorhees Skate Zone. Ambrose has come alive in the last seven games scoring 12 of his 15 goals in that stretch, after having just 3 in the first six games. Cherokee overall the last six weeks has stepped up their intensity and are poised to make another run at the SJHSHL Title. Mike Deford and Jake Kelley scored goals two minutes apart early in the first period as Cherokee jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Township would have two power play opportunities but failed to generate much offense, their best chance came late in the period when Chad Castorina had a scoring chance in close but Ryan Conrad stoned him to keep it 2-0.

The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. We will conduct a live draft next week-date and time to be announced so stay tuned. Here are your 2017-2018 nominees...

David Cutler scored three goals and Nicholas Carr added two as Cherry Hill East scored four goals in the first period as they defeated Mainland 6-3 in Tier II action in Voorhees on Monday evening. Cutler scored right after the opening face-off for a 1-0 lead. Just over one minute later Carr would get his first of the night and less than two minutes in East led 2-0. Cutler would make it 3-0 at the four minute mark and three minutes later Carr had his second and East led 4-0.

After starting the season 3-3, Cherokee has now won eight in a row including Monday night’s impressive 3-0 win over Eastern at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Crisp passing and getting back on defense were the consistent factors as the Chiefs outshot Eastern 33-10. Granted the Vikings were missing leading score Max Kuznetsov, but Cherokee seems to have found their grove at the right time as we wind down the season. Jacob Bianchi gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes left as good work down low by Jeremy Ambrose created the scoring opportunity. Just over one minute later Samuel Berger put home a rebound of a shot by Mike Deford and the lead was 2-0.

Gavin Dierkhising second goal of the night on the power play with just over five minutes left in the game gave Riverfront a 3-3 tie against Clearview in Tier II action played in Voorhees. Sean Cantwell and Colin Hughes exchanged goals in the first period, for Hughes it was his team high 19th of the season and that’s where we stood after one period. Dierkhising scored the only goal of the second period this one on the power play as Riverfront took a 2-1 lead into the third period. The View would rally in the third period as they would score twice in less than two minutes to take the lead.
