Christian Romeo had four goals and Brandon Eberly scored three as Moorestown upset top seed Cherokee 7-4 in the opening round of the SJHSHL double elimination tournament. Losing an opening round game is nothing new for the Chiefs as they have done, as they seem to choose the hard way to get to the finals, this year will be no different. Jeremy Ambrose put the Chiefs up 1-0 just twenty five seconds in, but goals by Romeo and Eberly two minutes apart gave Moorestown the lead for good at the six minute mark. Romeo would put home his own rebound with just eight seconds left in the period and the Quakes led 3-1 after one.

Mike Moss broke a 2-2 game with ten minutes left in the game as Team Simmonds edged Team Giroux 3-2 in last night’s Junior/Senior Showcase game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Having participated in the last few drafts Coach McKay has never won in this format, and while he wouldn’t admit that it bothered him, I got to believe that the success he has enjoyed over the last 8 years, not winning this game was probably bothering him to a degree. Trailing 2-0 on goals by Kevin Troy of St Joe’s and Zachary Faust of Black Horse, Team Simmonds would get a late goal in the period as Cody Charyk from Shawnee would score with Moss and Vinny Salerno getting the assists.
