Matthew Meldrum and Zachary Faust each scored two goals as Black Horse defeated Kingsway 6-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Black Horse built a 4-0 lead before Kingsway mounted a comeback. Meldrum and Mike Barbella scored first period goals, less than two minutes apart to give Black Horse a 2-0 lead after one. Harry Rivell would get his first of the season early in the second period to make it 3-0. Faust would connect on the power play midway through the period and the lead was 4-0.

Conor Riley had a hat trick and Maxim Kuznetsov added two goals and two assists as Eastern edged Clearview 6-5. Joey Freda and Nick Ramos each scored two goals to pace the Clearview offense. Freda had the only goal of the first period scoring on the power play. Anthony Dellerose made it 2-0 in the opening nine seconds of the second period. They say the worse lead in hockey is 2-0, and truer words were never spoken as back came the Vikings. Riley would score on the power play at the seven minute mark and later add his second of the night with just less than five minutes left in the period to tie the game at 2-2.

Matthew Schemelia scored two goals as Shawnee defeated Cinnaminson 6-5 at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. Cinnaminson scored three goals in the first period to lead 3-2, with Connor Farkas, Dawson, and Nehring and Mike O’Brien tallying for Cinnaminson, Shawnee got goals from Evan Glean and Schemelia. The lead grew to 4-2 as Anthony Lorino scored three minutes into the second period but goals by Anthony Poppalardo and Schemelia tied the score at 4-4 after two.

Sam Libetti scored two goals as Cherokee held off a hard charging Black Horse team in a 6-5 affair played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Coming off their first loss of the season on Friday night Black Horse came out a little flat and Cherokee capitalized scoring four goals in the first period. After Brad Brodzik scored an unassisted power play goal at the six minute mark, the Chiefs would respond would four goals in a seven minute span. Hunter Ray would blast a shot home for his first goal of the year midway through the period to tie the game at 1-1. Just over one minute later Libetti would get his first of two on the night to give Cherokee a 2-1 lead.

Luke Steele broke a 2-2 game with five minutes left in the third period scoring his second of the year as Cherry Hill defeated Moorestown 4-2 in SJHSHL action played in Voorhees. Cherry Hill would get on the board first as John Pearson would score his team high 11th of the season late in the first period. Moorestown would respond less than three minutes later as John Santosuosso would get his first varsity goal of the year to tie the game at 1-1 after one.

Cherokee Chiefs JVA team scored three goals in the third period, two coming in the final ninety seconds as they defeated Moorestown 3-1 in JVA action in Pennsauken on Sunday night. Moorestown scored the only goal of the first period as Kevin Hillman notched his fifth of the season to put the Quakes up 1-0. That lead stood until early in the third period when Jeffrey Brna would get the tying goal in the first three minutes of the period.

Harrison Rauh scored four goals and Alec Miller stopped 44 shots as Washington Township skated by Clearview 9-2 in JVA action played at the Skate Zone in Pennsauken this past Sunday. Since joining Township, Miller is 4-3 in nets, prior to him starting; Township had gone winless in six games. Rauh’s scoring outburst was a pleasant surprise as these were his first varsity goals.

The list of nominees from each SJHSHL team has been announced for the Junior/Senior Showcase game to be played on January 31st at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Each team will have 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 3 goalies. In addition, 3 alternates will be chosen in the event a player selected cannot make the game. The league will conduct a live draft streamed on SJIceHockey.com at a date to be announced. Here are the nominees:

Colin Rogers stopped 30 shots band Kevin Troy scored four goals as St Joe’s defeated Black Horse 6-2 last night at Hollydell. The loss was the first of the season for Black Horse after winning their first eleven games. Zack Faust gave Black Horse their only lead of the night scoring his league leading 25th goal of the season at the seven minute mark of the opening period. Troy would put home a rebound of a shot by Seth Zolda with two minutes left in the period to tie the game at 1-1. Four minutes into the second period, Troy would intercept a clearing pass and score unassisted to give St Joe’s the lead for good at 2-1.

Drew Murtha scored twice as Williamstown defeated Shawnee 4-1 in SJHSHL action in the final Friday night game at Hollydell for 2016. Murtha scored the only goal of the first period on a feed from Dennis Campbell late in the period as he banked the puck off the boards to send Murtha in all alone to make it 1-0. Early in the second period Murtha would connect on the power play, again from Campbell and the lead was 2-0. Ian Engel kept Shawnee off the board making several big saves down low.
