It shows on their faces each and every time the puck is dropped at the start of a game. The Rowan Ice Hockey team starts off their games with the right attitude but it has been difficult times for them to pick up the win as their efforts on the ice does not reflect their hard work on the scoreboard. So far this season, the Preps have been coming up short in close games and were looking to get back to their winning ways. In a non-conference game played at Hollydell Ice Arena against the Red Devils from Montclair State, Rowan fell behind early and loss this game by a 9-3 margin dropping their overall record to 1-5.

The Reading Royals took a lead midway through the third period and never gave it up as the Trenton Devils lost at home Saturday night by the score of 4-2. The game-winner came at the 9:31 mark of the final period when Dan Rudisuela banged home a rebound from a Scott Langdon shot from the boards. The Royals added an empty-netter to produce the final tally. Trenton struck first 4:40 into the game when Trevor Kell scored a power play goal off a deflection from an Eric Castonguay shot. Brock Hooton would tie it up for the Royals shorthanded later in the period. With 1:07 left in the first, Dylan Quaile fired a long rebound from the high slot to net his first professional goal, giving the Devils a 2-1 lead that lasted into the third.

Mike Schwer scored three goals to lead Timber Creek to a 5-2 win over Eastern in front of a sparse crowd at Hollydell. With both schools celebrating home coming weekend not many fans made the game and the Vikings seemed flat in the opening period. Schwer put Timber Creek up 1-0 in the games first minute with Mark Lamberto getting the assist. Just about four minutes later Brett Liszewski made it 2-0 lifting a back-hander down low into the net with Tom Szabo getting the assist.

Here is a recap of games that we were unable to view and that have been posted on the league web site: Joey Crespo scored four goals and Joe Pezzato added two as Shawnee routed Lenape 11-1 in action played at the Igloo. Using a five goal outburst in the first period Shawnee was in control from the beginning. With a penalty filled second period, there was only three goals scored, Crespo and Ian Smith for Shawnee and Scott Siracusano for Lenape, the teams took turns in the penalty box, with 12 being called, 7 to Lenape. Shawnee leading 7-1 heading into the third period scored three goals in the first five minutes as Matt McDonald joined in along with Brett Gordon and Crespo getting his fourth. With the win Shawnee remained tied for first with Moorestown.

Frank Garvey scored two goals seconds apart to fuel a five goal third period as Cherokee pulled away from Cinnaminson 7-2. Leading just 2-1 entering the third period, Cinnaminson was still in the game thanks to the stellar play in goal by Kevin Roth, who only surrendered goals to Jake Ahle and Pat Mohanics despite facing 30 shots. Justin Nugent had the lone Cinnaminson goal who managed just 11 shots through two periods.

Billy Bascou scored his second goal of the game with five seconds left in the third period to give the Eastern Vikings a 6-5 victory over Clearview. As the saying goes, it’s not how you start but how you finish as Clearview scored two goals in the opening period to lead 2-0 with Joe Tropiano and Eric Heritage scoring the goals. Early in the second period with an opportunity for Clearview to build on the lead with a power play opportunity, Sam Speigeldorf scored short-handed to cut the lead to 2-1.

Here is a recap of games played and posted during the week of October 6th, ones we were unable to attend: Lenape scored four goals in the first period in defeating Delran 6-1 at the Pennsauken Skate Zone. Gus Propper led the attack scoring two goals and Ryan Phillips, Brian Nixon, Tommy Burns and Scott Siracusano also found the net to keep Lenape undefeated. Sean Wojciechowski scored the lone Delran goal. Delran goalie Max Holz stopped 17 shots in keeping his goals against average at 1.00.
