We are just starting November and so far it’s been an interesting start. First we have a new team from Philadelphia, PPACS. They have struggled so far as was to be expected. They have a young team and will continue to develop. I mentioned in a previous article that JVA was an option, and while it was discussed, the club reps were adamant in not being placed there, so we apologize if this caused any disturbance. Shane McGarvey was just 14 years old when tragically this past July he was killed in a dirt bike accident. This past Sunday night, prior to the Eastern-Cherokee JVA game, the Cherokee Chiefs organization came together to honor this young man, taken way too soon. Shane was a member of the Flyers youth program and also played on the Chiefs middle school program. This year he would have played under Coach Sabol on the JVA team as a freshman at Cherokee. Coach Zuber from Eastern, one of Shane’s coaches from the youth team, also attended the celebration with Shane’s close friend and teammate Gavin Pringle who spoke during the ceremony and remembered his friend and the times they shared on and off the ice.

Down 3-2 late in the period Coach McKay took a time out and decided that with 97 seconds left in the game and an offensive zone face-off it was the right time to pull the goalie for an extra skater. Well timing is everything as Jacob Bianchi would get the equalizer and give the Chiefs a 3-3 tie with rival Moorestown. It’s always a gamble when you pull the goalie and making sure it’s the right time and most coaches will say it’s a feel on how the flow is going and most importantly where is the face-off. Cherokee struck early as Jack Ellis would give them a 1-0 lead scoring his second of the season 49 seconds into the game. Elias Sulpizio would tie the game for Moorestown scoring on a short-handed breakaway five minutes into the second period.
