Tied at 1-1 on goals by Czarnick for RV and Tom Burns for Lenape, the second period began with Lenape taking a 2-1 lead on a goal by Scott Kreifels just thirty seconds in, that lead was short-lived as thirty five seconds later Andrew Heinz tied the game at 2-2 on a feed from Sean Fleming. Washington Township used a six goal first period and went on to an 8-3 win over Shawnee. Ed Sarin led Township with four goals and Louie DeAngelo added two goals and three assists. With Township missing both varsity goalies, one due to illness and one due to an injury, freshman Pat Finnegan got his second consecutive start and allowed three goals. The real story was for Shawnee, missing both goalies, forward Vincent Misiewicz started in nets, and after that six goal first, played solid over the final two periods allowing just two goals the rest of the way.

With limited time and very limited resources there are always going to be teams we don’t see enough of, in this case I’m talking about Tier 3. This division consists of 4 teams, Mainland, Cherry Hill West, Vineland and Lower Cape May. They are a part of the SJHSIHL and I’m sure at times, not intentionally, might not feel they have a voice. They are playing an abbreviated schedule, total of 9 games, and so far Mainland is 6-0 and James Brandon leads the league in goals with 14 and points with 22. Vineland is in second place and is led in scoring by Matt Scheeper and Alex Mereianin each with seven goals.

Dylan Smith scored three goals and Eddie Sarin added three as Washington Township had little problem in a 9-1 win over Lenape. Kyle Young scored the lone Lenape goal. The hat trick was the first for the senior forward in his varsity career and with just three goals coming into the game; he saw his goals double for the year. Township was in control from the opening seconds as Sarin scored just thirty seconds in for a 1-0 lead. Louie DeAngelo and Smith would each score about one minute apart midway through the period as the lead grew to 3-0.

Coming off two straight losses and only averaging two goals in each of those defeats, Williamstown found some offense last night as Jonathan Ruiz scored four goals to lead Williamstown to an 8-5 win over Clearview. Bob Campbell led Clearview with three goals. Rich Busch added two for Williamstown. After spotting Clearview a 1-0 lead on a goal by Rob Savastano eight seconds into the game, Busch tied the score four minutes later poking home a loose puck. Ruiz gave the Braves a 2-1 lead with a blast from the slot and moments later would find the net from the top of the circle.

These games are always exciting, because you don't who is going to show up for either team. The Cherokee Chiefs and the Moorestown Quakers like to play each other feisty and hard and this game didn't let me down. After getting thumped by the Chiefs the first time they played this season, it looked as if Moorestown came to play this game.
