In the continuing tradition here at SJIceHockey, we are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 award winners. We had many players that had a standout year which made it difficult to narrow down and in one category we actually picked two players to share the honors. Congratulations to all.  The presentations will be prior to game 1 of the Championship round at Voorhees.

Shawnee is making its first appearance in recent memory and Moorestown finds itself the top seed after a 15-1-2 season. The games are scheduled to be played starting on March 12th as Cherokee will host DMA at 8:45 at Voorhees Skate Zone. Moorestown will begin play on Tuesday March 13th at Voorhees at 7:00. Please check back for the complete schedule, to be posted in the Forum. The 5th annual NJ/DE Flyers cup teams have been selected and here are the rankings...

Kyle Peters scored one minute into the overtime period as Team Simmonds rallied from a three goal deficit to defeat Team Giroux 9-8 in the Junior-Senior Showcase game held at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Max Kuznetsov led Team Giroux with six goals. Dominic Garrozzo had three goals and four assists and Kyle Peters added a hat trick for Team Simmonds. Luke Dobbs opened the scoring giving Team Giroux the early 1-0 lead. Dennis Campbell tied the game at 1-1 at the five minute mark.

The 2017-2018 SJHSHL draft for the Junior-Senior Showcase game was conducted on Tuesday night as the coaches for Team Simmonds and Team Giroux gathered to make their selections. Team Giroux, who will be coached by Daryl Sporer from Moorestown and assisted by Scott Busler from Cherry Hill East won the toss and selected Max Kuznetsov from Eastern with their first pick. Team Simmonds who will be coached by Scott McKay from Cherokee and assisted by John Francis from Kingsway selected Dominic Garrozzo from Washington Township. The nominees for the 2017-2018 Junior/Senior Showcase game have been released. The game will be played on Wednesday, February 7th at the Voorhees Skate Zone at 7:05. Tickets are $5. Head coach from Moorestown will team with head coach from Cherry Hill East to oppose head coach from Cherokee who will team with head coach from Kingsway. We will conduct a live draft next week-date and time to be announced so stay tuned. Here are your 2017-2018 nominees...

Kevin Glass scored three goals as St Joe’s rolled over Cinnaminson 10-2 in Tier II action played at Hollydell. Glass connected on the power play and short-handed in the first period as St Joe’s led 2-0 after one. St Joe’s would score 5 times in the second period to take control of the game. Nick Jervas would score two goals 26 seconds apart to increase the lead to 4-0 just three minutes into the second period. Goals by Robert Diehm and Glass’s third of the night just eighteen second apart had the lead to 6-0.

Logan Rutt had four goals and Anthony Carite added three as St Joe’s had little trouble with Cinnaminson in a 10-1 victory. Nicholas Jervas gave St Joe’s a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game scoring on the power play. Cinnaminson would score their only goal of the game at the five minute mark as Jake Bennett would tie the game at 1-1 scoring unassisted. St Joe’s would go on to score four goals over the next five minutes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Kevin Glass and Carite would score goals nineteen seconds apart and Rutt and John Pleis would score one minute apart and St Joe’s took a 5-1 lead into the second period.

Cherry Hill East scored a team record 12 goals in the first period as they rolled through Cinnaminson 13-0 in Tier II action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Johnny Pearson Jr had a hat trick and Kyle Hill and Eric First scored two goals each to pace the East attack. East jumped out to a 2-0 lead before one minute had been played as goals by Pearson and Calvin Aliferov gave East the start they had hoped for. Antonio Musciano and Pearson’s second of the night had the lead to 4-0 less than four minutes into the game and the rout was on.

Clearview vs CinnaminsonClearview received goals from eight different players in defeating Cinnaminson 10-0 in the season opener for both teams on Monday night. Colin Hughes led the offense scoring twice, including a short-handed goal in the opening minute of the game. The View put up four goals in the first period against a very young Cinnaminson team and never looked back. After goals by Brendan Bainbridge and Hughes second gave the View a 3-0 lead, Chase Dyar would score the second short-handed goal for Clearview, his first of two on the night and the lead was 4-0 after one period.
