Don’t look now but the hottest team in the league, Moorestown is charging into the playoffs after handling Shawnee 5-2 at the Igloo. Ben Smith led the attack scoring twice. With the win Moorestown clinched first place in the North Division. Shawnee failed to capitalize on the power play as they were 0-6 with the man advantage and could only muster two shots on a two man advantage they had for a full two minutes early in the third period. Smith scored the only goal of the first period as he picked up a loose puck at the blue line and fired a shot that beat Alex Crespo. Smith made it 2-0 early in the second period, but Joe Crespo scored on a breakaway to cut the lead to 2-1.
Moorestown put the game away scoring three goals in a span of three minutes to take a 5-1 lead. First they scored consecutive power play goals, one by Tyler Woyshner and one by Pat Dispirito for a 4-1 lead. Mike Eni scored on a breakaway to make it 5-1 with nine minutes left in the second period. Joe Pezzato scored at the eight minute mark to make it 5-2 after two periods. Craig Rushmore shut down Shawnee in the third period, thanks to some great help in front especially on the two-man advantage at the nine minute mark and Moorestown just checked the game away.
Notes: Even if Cherokee wins their last game they could end up tying Moorestown for first, and with each team winning one against each other, Moorestown by having one more win would get the top spot in the North. Washington Township however has one more point than Moorestown and will be the top seed in the tournament.
