The Williamstown Junior Varsity squad rallied from a two goal deficit in the third period to upset division leader Washington Township 5-4 in action played at Hollydell on Sunday night. The Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Doug Sanders and Rich Busch in the first eight minutes of the game. Township got one back on a shot from behind the net by Nick Bramante to cut the lead to 2-1. Early in the second period Township got the tie as Zack Astore scored on a blast from the point.

With the momentum back on their side having launched 10 shots in the opening six minutes, Dylan Smith scored on a 2-on-1 break at the five minute mark to give Township its first lead at 3-2 and that’s where we stood heading into the final period. After Jonathan Smith put Township ahead 4-2, the game seemed to get chippy and with Williamstown on the power play Ryan Marshall scored to make it 4-3. Then with less than four minutes left in the game once again on the power play, Allan Haynes tied the score at 4-4 and suddenly the Braves had the momentum and Township was looking to just hang on.

But with two minutes remaining Jacob Distasio poked the puck loose and with the goalie sprawled out on the left side of the crease; Distasio circled around the net and tucked the puck home and a 5-4 lead for Williamstown. Township would not threaten and the Braves had the come from behind victory. With the loss Township could fall from first should Moorestown win their last two games.

Notes: Skylar Priest started for Washington Township and after giving up two early goals, she played well, and left with the 4-2 lead. DJ Marks came in to finish, but could not hold the lead.
