Alec Nicolai scored twice and Ryan Volosin scored once as Moorestown JVA edged Cherokee JVA 3-2 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Sunday night. All the goals were special teams’ goals, with four power play goals and one short-handed goal. Cherokee scored the lone goal of the first period as Brandon Nilson, who scored both of the goals, took advantage of the extra attacker with Anthony Williams and Josh Westrom getting the assists. Moorestown did all their scoring in the second period.
Nicolai tied the game at 1-1 as he scored a short-handed goal with just under nine minutes left. Then with Moorestown on the power play, Nicolai on a nice pass from Willie Sulpizio, gave Moorestown a 2-1 lead. With the clock winding down, Volosin scored from down low with just three seconds left in the period and the lead was 3-1. The third period was non-stop skating as our first whistle did not occur until the seven minute mark. Nilson got Cherokee to within 3-2 scoring a power play goal with just over two minutes left in the game, but Cherokee could not get the equalizer.
