Washington Township continued its strong run as four different players scored in a 4-2 win over Cherokee. Mike Stoever stopped 32 of 34 shots, surrendering two power play goals. Township led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Matt Fleekop. That lead grew to 2-0 as Township capitalized on a two-man advantage at the eight minute mark as John Rey slid a pass to Jonathan Paulo who had an empty net to shoot at. It became 3-0 as Louie DeAngelo put home a rebound of a shot by Dante Fleagle with just under four minutes left in the period. Through two periods, Township had played solid defense, stayed out of the penalty box, only one infraction, and Stoever was not giving up any rebounds.
Mike Nigro converted on the power play for Township five minutes into the third period and with a 4-0 lead, things seemed pretty safe for Township. Then at the nine minute mark Township had two penalties called, and Cherokee had a two-man advantage for a full two minutes. Just like that Frank Garvey put one home from the slot and twenty seconds later Kyle Kopervas put one in down low and suddenly it was 4-2. Stoever however shut the door and Cherokee could get no closer. With the win Township needs just four points in their final three games to clinch the top seed in the Playoff Tournament. There three remaining games are against Timber Creek, Holy Cross and Clearview. They also hold the tie breaker against Moorestown, having beaten them earlier in the season.
