Nick Cyr scored a power play goal with two minutes left in the game as Holy Cross defeated Cherokee 2-1 and will meet Moorestown on Wednesday night at the Igloo. With Moorestown having gone through the tournament undefeated, they need to win just one game to repeat as champions. Holy Cross must win Wednesday night and then again on Friday in order to be crowned champions.
After a scoreless first period, which saw both teams not wanting to make a mistake and a very close checking game, Holy Cross broke through late in the second period as Ryan Badger scored down low. Cherokee could only manage 11 shots through two periods and would be hard pressed to score with that few shots. Anthony Williams tied the game at 1-1 with five minutes remaining in the third as he batted home a loose puck in front of the net. With the game seemingly headed to overtime, Holy Cross went on the power play with less than three minutes left in the game on a very close call for tripping.
Holy Cross showed good patience in setting up in the zone and Cyr positioned himself in front and tipped a shot from the point by Jim Guida into the net past Alec Zucker, who once again was outstanding in nets for the Chiefs.
