Cole Zucker recorded his second varsity hat trick, both during this playoff run, as Cherokee defeated Clearview 6-3 at the Skate Zone on Monday night and ended the season for the Pioneers. Cherokee moves on and will face Moorestown next Monday night at 7:10 at Voorhees. Cherokee wasted little time as they scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game. Jason Spieker opened the scoring with a blast from the right circle just one minute into the game. Just about one minute later Zucker broke in and after his shot was kicked aside, Pat Mohnacs was there to put home the rebound and before you could settle into your seat it was 2-0.

Clearview got one back right before the first period ended as Joe Paul connected on the power play, his first of two on the night. Zucker got that one back early in the second period as this time Mohnacs took the shot and Zucker put home the rebound for a 3-1 lead. That lead stood until the last five minutes of the second when Clearview had a two-man advantage for fifty-one seconds, and while failing to capitalize on that, they did score on the back-end of the second penalty as Taylor Olson created the scoring opportunity and Paul was there for the rebound to bring Clearview to within 3-2.

Zucker responded about one minute later as he flew down the left side and his shot beat Dan Flaherty for a 4-2 lead heading into the final period. Zach Tiernan gave Cherokee a 5-2 lead scoring in the first thirty seconds of the third period, but Bob Campbell made it 5-3 as once again Olson using his quickness got around the defense and found Campbell all alone in the slot to bring the View to within two. But that was as close as they came, their last chance came in the final two minutes, with a man advantage and the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, but Zucker scored an empty net goal to ice the win.

Notes: Clearview had a great turn around season and should be proud of where they finished. Losing the leadership of a player like Ed Moore will hurt, but if Olson returns they will still be a force.
