Jonathan Ruiz and Pat Curiale each scored two goals as the North defeated the South 9-2 in the Junior/Senior Showcase game played at Hollydell. After spotting the South a 1-0 lead on a goal by Eric Simone just over one minute into the game the North would score the next eight goals. Kyle Parks began the streak as he put home a pass from Ruiz right along the side of the net, Jason Spieker also assisted. That line created a lot of scoring opportunities all night. Curiale, playing with teammate Garrett Quinn would give the South the lead for good at the eight minute mark as he broke in with Quinn on a 2-on-1. Adam Seitz scored an unassisted goal thirty seconds later and the lead was 3-1.

The Cherokee Chiefs used a four goal third period to defeat Moorestown 5-1 last night before a standing room only crowd at the Skate Zone in Voorhees to win the SJHSIHL Championship for the second straight year. Cole Zucker led the Chiefs with two goals, and Alec Nicolai scored the lone goal for Moorestown. Unlike Monday’s game which started out as a defensive struggle and stayed that way throughout, this game Cherokee had a strong showing offensively in the opening period, but Moorestown goalie Vada Mangum kept the Chiefs off the board. Cherokee had a golden opportunity barely one minute into the game as they went on the power play, and despite generating 5 shots, failed to score.

In sports the one of the many sayings is it’s not how you start but how you finish. Look at the Giants, they got hot at the right time and unfortunately are celebrating another championship. Same can be said for the St Louis Cardinals last year. As we look back in the SJHSIHL, we used the last 6 games as a barometer to see who has been hot. Cherokee comes in as the favorite, rightfully so as they are the defending champs and finished atop of the Tier 1 division with just 2 losses. And in their last 6 games have gone 5-1. Clearview has won 4 games in a row and 5 out of 6, with the lone loss coming against Cherokee, a team they defeated earlier in the season.

The tandem of Taylor Olson and Mike Vulpio combined for seven goals and eight assists as Clearview had little trouble in defeating Cherokee II 9-1 in Friday night action played at Hollydell. After a slow start, Clearview scored three goals in the final three minutes of the first period to jump ahead 3-0. Vulpio opened the scoring on a nice pass from Olson down low to make it 1-0. Then on the power play Olson and Vulpio hooked up again with Vulpio notching his second of the night with one minute left in the period.

Mainland killed off two consecutive power play chances for Cherokee II as they held on for a 4-3 victory. With the win Mainland improved its record to 6-6-4 on the season and is in third place in the Tier II division. Jack Handshaw scored the lone goal of the first period as the teams combined for nine penalties. In the second period both teams capitalized on the power play, each scoring twice with the man advantage. Cherokee II scored two goals in less than one minute early in the period to take a 2-1 lead. After Sam Goldberg tied the score at 1-1, Zack Hendrickson gave Cherokee II a 2-1 lead scoring his fourth goal of the year and his first of two on the night.

Coming off their second loss of the season on Friday night, Cherokee came out intent on not losing two in a row and Casey Forte and Brian Miller made sure as they led the Chiefs to a 7-1 win over Clearview. Forte had two goals and two assists, Miller added two goals. Midway through the first period Forte found Jason Spieker in front and he re-directed the pass into the net for a 1-0 lead. Later in the period Forte found Dave Mazzilli all alone in front and his quick shot made it 2-0 after one.

Kelly Farinella stopped 27 shots and Cole Zucker and Dave Mazzilli scored two goals each as Cherokee defeated Shawnee 5-2 at the Igloo in Mt. Laurel on Monday night. Lawrence Walker scored both Shawnee goals. With the win the Chiefs clinched the number one seed for the playoffs. Walker gave Shawnee a 1-0 lead scoring a power play goal just four minutes into the game. Zucker would tie the score at 1-1 at the nine minute mark and that’s how the period would end.

Dylan Bradley and Cole Zucker each had two goals and three assists as Cherokee had little trouble in defeating Williamstown 8-2 in SJHSIHL action played at Hollydell on Friday night. With the win Cherokee has a seven point lead in the division and has all but clinched the top seed in the Tournament. The Chiefs wasted little time grabbing the lead as Bradley scored a power play goal just four minutes into the game with Zucker and Jason Spieker getting the assists. Spieker also had a strong game contributing three assists.

Taylor Olson scored three goals, including two in the first period as Clearview jumped out to a 3-0 lead and defeated Washington Township 6-3 in a SJHSIHL game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Olson scored just over one minute into the game to the View a 1-0 and Kyle Montgomery would make it 2-0 at the five minute mark. Olson closed out the period with a goal in the final twenty seconds to give the View a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.

Joseph Paul had a hat trick, including two third period goals to lead Clearview over previous undefeated Cherokee 4-2 in SJHSIHL action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Coming off a loss to Township on Friday night in a game that did not produce much offense, Clearview would respond with a better effort. Norman Angel picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season as he gave Clearview a 1-0 lead late in the first. Casey Forte got that one back for Cherokee and we headed into the second period 1-1.
