Lower Cape May did not win a regular season game last year, but on Friday night that streak ended as eight different player scored as they defeated Middle Township 9-6 in action played at the Skate Zone in Atlantic City. Karlson Hughes scored two goals for Lower Cape May, Sam Bakely and Tom DeMarco led Middle Township with two goals each.

Kenny Weightman gave Middle Township its only lead of the nigh scoring midway through the opening period. Lower Cape May would score four goals in less than three minutes to take control of the game. After Cole Blackley would tie the game at 1-1 at the eleven minute mark, goals by Mike Laricks and Bill Flosdorf thirty nine seconds apart gave Lower Cape May a 3-1 lead. Colin Donahue added a goal right before the buzzer to make it 4-1 after one.

Bakely got Middle Township to within 4-2 scoring in the first three minutes of the second period, but Justin Tomlin got that one right back about thirty seconds later and the lead was 5-2. After Sam Stango scored an unassisted goal to give Lower Cape May a 6-2 lead, Middle Township would get two goals in a span of seven seconds to pull to 6-4 after two.

Lower Cape May would ice the game scoring three unanswered goals in the third as Justin Daehling would get his first of the season and Hughes would net two. Middle Township would score two goals in the final minute to make it close. Notes: We heard that the coaches were taking the team to Taco Bell to celebrate the end of the streak; maybe if they win a few more games the coaches will spurge for dinner at Ruth Chris.
