Eight different players scored for Moorestown and they used a five goal second period to roll past Cherokee 8-4 in a showdown between the top 2 teams in Tier I at Voorhees last night. With the win Moorestown now has a five point lead over Cherokee, having played one more game. John Martino gave Cherokee its only lead of the night scoring just over one minute into the game. Eric Schwartz and Tyler Tavormina with give Moorestown a 2-1 lead, scoring goals three minutes apart, with Tavormina’s goal coming on the power play.

Jake Toran would tie the score at 2-2 early in the second period, but that would be short-lived as Moorestown would score three goals in less than two minutes to take command. First Jeff Briggs would give Moorestown the lead for good scoring at the three minute mark and goals by Mike Katz and John Yedman thirty seven seconds apart had Moorestown in command at 5-2. Will Sulpizio would net his team high 21st goal to make it 6-2 and Chris DeRose would score on the power play late in the period to give Moorestown a commanding 7-2 advantage heading into the final stanza.

Aaron Huffnagle scored an unassisted goal in the first two minutes of the third period to cut the deficit to 7-3, but John McCullough scored a short-handed goal one minute later to stop any hopes of a Cherokee comeback. Brian Miller added his 14th of the year with just over one minute left in the game to close out the scoring.
