Eric Lauk had three goals and two assists as Clearview jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and held off a charging St Joe’s team 6-4 in cross-over action played at Hollydell on Friday night.

Anthony Lovell had a hat trick for St Joe’s. Clearview started in the opening minute of the game as Mike Cullen scored a power play goal with Lauk getting the assist. The lead grew to 2-0 at the eight minute mark as Ryan Lauk broke in with his brother Eric, 2-on-1 and after Ryan hit the post, Eric was there to put home the rebound and a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes later Eric made it 3-0, this time with Cullen getting the helper.

Early in the second period Mike Vulpio scored on the power play to increase the lead to 4-0 and Clearview seemed to be in control. But Lovell scored twice in a span of three minutes to cut the deficit to 4-2. Matt Bishop responded for Clearview scoring their third power play goal to temporarily stop the momentum and make it 5-2. With just over two minutes left in the second period, Tristen Ridarelli scored just his second goal of the year but it brought St Joe’s to within 5-3.

With a golden opportunity heading into the third period, St Joe’s would have a two-man advantage for almost a full two minutes. Unfortunately they did not capitalize. With just under four minutes left in the game Lovell completed his hat trick and the lead was down to one at 5-4. Eric would ice the game about one minute later scoring on a breakaway to make it 6-4.
