St Joe’s staved off elimination from the double elimination tournament beating Lower Cape May 9-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. Troy Altbaum stopped all 24 shots in pitching the shutout. Paulie Petrongolo added two goals and two assists. St Joe’s wasted little time in taking control as Nick Frangos scored an unassisted goal as he intercepted a cross ice pass to make it 1-0. Lower Cape May’s best chance of the period came on a breakaway by Karlson Hughes, but Altbaum stoned him. Lovell made it 2-0 on a feed from Nick Corwonski.

MacDuff got his first goal of the night on the power play with just over two minutes left in the period for a 3-0 lead. Petrongolo scored a short-handed goal in the last minute to give St Joe’s a commanding 4-0 lead after one. Petrongolo than made it 5-0 with a back-hander in the slot through a maze of players. MacDuff scored his second goal, again on the power play at the eight minute mark for a 6-0 lead. Lower Cape May had a two-man advantage for almost a full 2 minutes, but Altbaum made several big saves, including stoning Cole Blackley in tight.

Another power play goal by Lovell and then an even-strength goal made it 8-0 midway through the third and MacDuff completed his hat trick scoring short-handed in the final minutes.
