With the playoffs winding down and another season coming to an end, here are some predictions on who might win their respective Titles:
Tier I teams are already set, Moorestown and Cherokee. During the regular season Cherokee had a 2-1-1 edge, but Moorestown has won the last 2 in including a 5-4 win last Friday. The key will be containing Brian Miller, in the season opener Miller went off for 6 goals. Over the next four meetings he has been held to just one goal total, so he has Moorestown’s attention when he is on the ice. The teams are pretty even overall, offensively Cherokee averages about .50 goals more per game, but defensively Moorestown has a slight edge. Then you have the Fenu Factor, what’s that you ask?? Well senior forward Anthony Fenu has been on the varsity since his freshmen season and could become the first player in SJHSIHL history to play on 4 championship teams. Discipline, defense and goaltending will decide this series. I think Moorestown ends the 3 year run and defeats Cherokee in 3 games.
Tier II - The final has not been set yet, but my guess is we will see Black Horse and Clearview in the finals. EEW has a strong goalie, but don’t thing they have the fire power to make it to the finals. With a senior driven team, but underclassmen leading them in scoring and in goal, Black Horse will be the heavy favorite to take the title.
Tier III - Mainland has not lost a game all season, and unless St Joe’s figures out a way, Mainland should win the title. This team was good enough to compete at the Tier II level and should move up next season. Strong goaltending is the key and they have 2 solid net minders.
Good luck to all teams…
