Tim Vant scored two goals as Mainland defeated Cinnaminson 3-2 in the Tier II playoffs played at the Skate Zone in Atlantic City. The loss eliminated the Pirates but they should be proud of what they accomplished this year coming off a one win season and winning seven games and making it to within one game of playing for the title. Cinnaminson broke through first as Eric Bell ripped a shot just under the cross bar on the long side for a 1-0 lead at the five minute mark. Vant tied the game at 1-1 with two minutes left in the period on a nice pass from Nate Herring.

Mckenzie Restle put Mainland up 2-1 scoring on the power play early in the second period and two minutes later Vant gave them a two goal cushion again on a nice pass from Herring. Early in the third period with the man advantage, Cinnaminson got to within 3-2 with Tyler Granroth connecting. Just a few minutes later Granroth had a breakaway but Dominik Newman made his biggest save of the game as he stoned him to protect the one goal lead. Despite pulling the goalie Cinnaminson could not get the equalizer.

Notes: Chris Peters in nets for the Pirates was outstanding as he faced 39 shots, many down low and his play kept the Pirates close. Mainland must now defeat St Joe’s twice if they want to be champs, as St Joe’s has not lost a game in the tournament.
