Chris DeRose scored four goals as Moorestown defeated Cherokee 6-3 in American division action played at the Skate Zone. Boomer Miller led Cherokee with two goals. The Chiefs led 2-0 midway through the first period on goals by Miller on the power play and Kyle Horner. DeRose got his first of the night in the last minute of the period scoring on a break. Moorestown got an early goal in the second period from Alex Crowl, his third of the year and we were tied at 2-2.
Miller connected on the power play about three minutes later and the Chiefs had a 3-2 lead, but John Yedman would score an unassisted goal from a tough angle to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the final period. The third period was all DeRose, as he scored three goals, the game winner coming with less than seven minutes left finishing a shot by John McEvoy and then adding a power play goal and even strength goal in last two minutes. Coach Ridge has been looking for this kind of play from his team all season and with playoffs starting next week, Moorestown could be back in the conversation.
Notes: Dmitri Cirillo assisted on all three Cherokee goals and had a strong game defensively. With his two goals Miller has 25, a new season high, eclipsing his 23 goals scored last season.
