Smith saves Kingsway, as Lower Cape May loses lead

Matt Smith tied the game at 4-4 with one minute left in regulation, then won the game in overtime scoring with just seconds remaining in the first overtime as Kingsway defeated Lower Cape May 5-4 in playoff action at Hollydell. Kingsway will move on to play Egg Harbor Township. Lower Cape built a 4-1 lead on two goals from Joe Smith and one by Brian Moss and one by Tom Smith. Kevin Carr had the only goal for Kingsway, his coming late in the second period. With a three goal lead heading into the third period, Lower Cape seemed on their way to a win, but an early power play goal by Dom Salerno gave Kingsway a pulse at 4-2.

With just under five minutes left in the game Mike Moss put home a rebound of a shot by Salerno and Kingsway was now back in it at 4-3. With the clock winding down and their net empty for an extra skater, Kingsway kept the heat on and Smith banged home the game tying goal with one minute remaining. During the first overtime Kingsway had back to back power play opportunities, but goalie Jared Sweeten, who was strong the whole game, kept Kingsway off the board. Then with the period winding down, Smith picked up the puck in the slot and ripped home the game winner and Kingsway had completed its comeback.
