Trevor Ligeikis scored twice as Cherokee built a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat Washington Township 3-1 and capture the JVA Title. Township failed to capitalize on seven power play opportunities and despite being the top seed and suffering only one loss during the regular season, Cherokee will wear the crown. The Chiefs jumped out early in the first period as Mike Smith scored in the first three minutes. Ligeikis added a power play goal for a 2-0 lead, late in the period and Township had an uphill battle.
Ligeikis added his second of the night at the ten minute mark of the second period for a 3-0 lead. Township broke through with just over one minute left in the period as Stefano Sferra scored to cut the lead to 3-1. That’s where we ended as Township could not muster any offense in the third period, despite averaging over four goals per game during the regular season. Congratulations to Coach Sabol on another championship.
